My word are backed with.... NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

The Alpha Centauri 'nuke' should be ported into Civ III. Dropping one of those suckers should leave a darn big hole in the ground, and dang little else.

That said, I build the Manhattan Project at the end of the game, just before my spaceship lands. In any other situation, you either don't need the nukes because of tech superiority, or can't afford to let your enemies get their psychotic paws on them.

I hate nukes, I never use them. And BTW, Thunderfall, add the option "What's a nuke? Never seen one, since my city's surrounded by airfields" (cf. anti-nukes tactics in an older post)

Yeah, we could replace the nukes with dolphins.

Imagine the diplomacy dialogue...

Egyptian ambassador wench: Is that a bottle-nosed dolphin in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?
Me: Actually it's a sperm whale.
Wench: This is Earth, you idiot, not Magrathea...

you nuke me...i send nukes the other way and will aim to nuke your nukes on the ground (spies investigate where they put their nukes)

Don't be a wimp or a ******, retaliate!

Hey GenghisK,

Me? Afraid? Well you're so young so I'll spare you from my wrath

No why should I be afraid of nukes? I just say that it's not a "gentlemen" way to win, that's all. I'm a pacifist you know. I hate using violence to reach my aims. Always use tactics and diplomacy to win. Eheheh

I love buying enemy cities
psycho-eyes.gif
That keeps my conscience clean
wink.gif
At least cleaner than after you've put a nuke
biggrin.gif
Sorry for the silly joke. I'm a bit tired now...

Haha! I love HHGTTG-humor. That would be a cool weapon, the famous sperm whale and the flowerpot.

I love nuclear warfare.

That is why I make the SDIs very expensive, because after you have SDIs and the AI has them, it's not fun anymore.

So they cost something like 5 times more than a wonder. This makes them hard to get even for me, and adds lots of fun to the game (and pollution ).

Ah, nukes! As a good friend of mine once said, 'Fun, yes! But in no sense civilized.'

Nukes are specific to unsubtle guys like Fishhead
lol.gif
As he said somewhere in another post, it's fun simulating a global nukular war
lol.gif

In fact, if people don't have a brain, they usually use nukes
biggrin.gif
Just kidding.

I think Nukes suck. And I'm not saying this just to be friends with Genghis K. I agree that the best war is a nukeless war. The good old way. Like you see in Braveheart. Or Gladiator. Or Saving Private Ryan. OR Hunt For Red October (yeah there's no war, but it still looks cool

)
Has anyone read Tom Clancys RED STORM RISING? It's about how he'd imagine WW3, in 1985 or something like that. USA vs USSR. And there's about 400 pages of diplomacy and normal strategic war, no nukes, and the russians decide to use nukes when they're suffering heavy casualties, and only after lost of discussion. But dont worry - they dont, the book has a happy end
smile.gif

The point of the matter is that nuclear warfare is something like decaf coffee; want decaf - drink apple juice.

I've read the book. Actually, they had 100 pages of diplomacy
smile.gif
Tom Clancy just used a lot of detail. I could explain the book in a sentence, and summarize it in a page.

Nuclear weapons suck. It's for people who can't bribe straight
smile.gif
If Tom Clancy like nukes, his books would be very thin.

tom clancy book with nukes:

the day was young, it was only 7:21 in moscow. young T.Tedofsky sat at his post, calm despite the alarms that were ringing out all around him. he knwe what he had to do.
slowley he opened up the cover over the large red button labled "launch" and with a single push from his thumb, launched the nuclear weapon
den da earth endeded
the end!

Yeah that's what I'm talkin about!

They moved like sharks in the water. They were muslims, but you could hardly tell by their Azerbaijani accent. The leader, Imbrahim, and his parnter Rasul, was going to st------Then the bomb went off. The End.

You guys have a natural for writtin books. But still - i dont think anyone could write an interesting story about a nuke war.

I use nukes rather like the U.S. and U.S.S.R.; I won't use 'em if you won't. In my games I'm usually the first to build them, and I love the diplomatic effect that results - everyone suddenly gets so congenial. You look at the diplomatic list and they all suddenly read "Worshipful", "Enthusiastic"...

However, using them can get messy, as has already been noted. Global warming does some nasty things to your economy. A few months back I had a rivalry with the damned French who started a very long and painful nuclear exchange that ended when the world looked like a Ray Bradbury novel.
eek.gif
And the AI almost always knows "somehow" exactly which cities you haven't covered with SDI yet.

The SDI is extremely helpful, not only with nukes of course but it cuts back with the cruise missiles too - and we all know the AI is cruise missile-happy. I'm all for the SDI - in Civ II, anyway; not necessarily in real life.

Does anyone know if the AI chooses strategies according to the color it's playing? Often I find violet AI nations as the most aggressive, while the green ones often seem more likely to store their nukes on submarines. Could be just my imagination...
