My worst start position ever.

I've had worse:

That starts screams for Sailing first :)

I would be interested in trying out this fishing village game. For one thing, I would move the settler one tile south to get that grassland tile within the city fat cross. Later on, I would move the capital to a well cottaged riverside city. You got the original save?

Do you play a lot of Oasis maps? I do, and the whole drift of the map is to rush for the resources in the center. What you describe actually sounds rather standard IME, though the level might make it unworkable. One thing I do know for certain is that Horses never appear in the southern half of the map, which is where the human player starts unless you change your starting number in the set up screen. Check around CFC for Sirian's map reference, it has all the info. The Barbs coming out of the desert are bad enough on Noble-- I can't imagine how bad they are on Immortal. Good training on fog busting techniques, that's for sure.

Could be worse. I once played a multiplayer occ on great plains. Best site close to start I could find still had something like 18 hills. 1 health resource, 1 luxury. Played on anyways since I figured I had to have at least 1 copper/iron/horse so I could get some early warmongering in before everyone else completely overtook me.

Not 1 copper.
Not 1 horse.
Not 1 iron.

Played on anyway - somehow actually managed to keep up in the tech race thanks to the gl and some windmill spam. Hit physics - 4 uranium in fat cross. Hit industrialism - 6 aluminium in fat cross. Now THATS a crazy start :).

uncarved block - that's more or less the problem I've run into. The barbs on immortal are quite nasty and I lost a city on a game I started from that save. I guess it might be playable if I go archery and spam archers, but I'd really rather not go in that direction. Maybe I'll play the game eventually one of these days...
