name in () near resource in trade menu

If you are referring to the city screen, then that number refers to how many of that specific luxury are hooked up to the city you are viewing.

This number is for information only. 1 silk hooked up has the same effect as 20 hooked up.

On the trade screen, the number represents the number of a resource/luxury that you have available for trade. It only considers resources/luxuries that are hooked up to your capital through roads, harbors, airports or any combination of the three. The number you have available for trade is the total number hooked to the capital, minus one for your own use, minus any that are being traded to other civs.

Example: You have 4 ivory hooked to the capital. You are trading one to another civ. The screen will show Ivory (2) meaning you have two extra to trade.

If you only have one resource/luxury to trade it will show zero (one resource/luxury minus one for your use). You can trade your last instance of a resource/luxury, but then you no longer have it for your use.

Example: You have one iron hooked to the capital. The trade screen will show Iron (0). If you trade that, you will no longer have iron and therefore can’t build iron dependant units/terrain improvements.

Got it?

Yes, it was. I always wondered what precisely the number was, I presumed it was how many sources there were, but it sometimes seemed to be wrong. But now I know better. Yay.

No problem.

I suppose I forgot to mention that if the resource/luxury doesn't show up in the trading screen, it means the other civ already has it (or you don't have it). I'm sure most people would have figured that part out, but here it is anyways.

There is another time you could have a number (8) next to a resource or luxury.

If you look at active deals you have with another civ, that number will represent the number of turns you have left on a twenty turn deal.

Where do you see this? I am always wondering how many turns I have
left  until I can :hammer: the AI. ;)

When in trade session, click on Active text/button. Should be under "trade table", next to Clear table and New buttons.

:thanx: Gen, I'll try to look tonight :scan: .

Also I believe, on the right of Foreign advisor screen, you can choose between, treaties, trade and details, click details and then click a civ and it will show you all active trades you have with them. Is a bit faster sometimes than entering a trade screen, just to find out what your active trades are.
