Naming the Continents

We have most of the world mapped out. We have met every other major civilization on the planet. We have even initiated trade across the vast oceans and fostered communications with people a world away.

And yet... we don't have names for anything! It's high-time we decide on what to call the two major continents on our planet. Besides the fact that referring to the two as either "our continent" or "the other continent" is getting real old real fast, I think it would enhance the feel of the game and add a layer of depth to distinguish between the continents.

Of course, having said that, I have no idea what exactly to name them. I have a few ideas, as I'm sure everyone else does, but I think this is an issue we need to discuss thoroughly. Afterall, we don't want to end up like the "Americans" and get named after an explorer nobody's ever heard of.

My (oh so humble) suggestion is that we name our continent Kyouri (Japanese for birth-place), and name the other continent Hebishumyaku (which means, very roughly, Snake-like mountain range; because it's pretty snake-like and pretty mountainous).

Of course, my opinions don't mean anymore than anyone else's, and anyone who has an idea is welcome to post it. I think it'd be really neat if we had names for the continents (maybe even the oceans, too, when we see more of them). Afterall, what fun is mapping the world if you don't get to name it? ;)

How about for our Continent "Te Papa" or Our place, (in a different language if you know what language i will give you a brownie) and it sounds like something to do with dad, and we all like our dad.

Kyori is nice name. Second is too long, hard to spell. Can someone find Japanese word for New World - that might be old continents name...

yeah, but would you have known that if my location didnt say new zealand. (and my signiture didnt say god defend nz and i didnt have the nz coat of arms)

How about our continent is Japan and their continent is America?

Here are my ideas:

For the West:
Kokoku (homeland)

For the East:
Jermani (Germany, the first part discovered)
Enkakuchi (distant land)
Ikoku (land of barbarians)
Ikyou (strange land)
Ongoku (distant land)
Gyokuchi (fish-shaped land)

Good suggestions all! (except you, blackheart, try harder :p )

I like "Gyokuchi" for the other continent (I think the name should be at least somewhat based on geography, rather than just calling it "New Place Land"). As for our continents names, well, call me self-centered, but I like Kyouri a lot.

Kia ora Nobody. Yes I would. I've sufficient knowledge of NZ people and the Maori language to recognise the language. That I saw you being from "the land of the long white cloud" (Aotearoa) has nothing to do with that. ;) I still want my brownie...
Are you from the city of the "beehive" ?

Furugawa and Atarashigawa , Oldside and Newside
Good, but probably too long. What about "Furugawa" and "Atarashi" ?

why stop at continets why not name the seas as well...dope u beat me at posting this idea up!!! lol oh well

Well, Ali, all we'd have to do is name the oceans "Sunrise" and "Sunset".

Kyouri or Kokoku would be good for our's, and I'm leaning towards Ikoku for the other one... that is if China, Russia, or America continue on their Continental Domination quests... If not, then either Ikyou or Ongoku

What about

Japanatican continent Furugawa, and the other Atarashika'
The oceans, Amaterasu and Shorai, Sun Goddess and Future Ocean

Pacific is a ridiculous name for Earths biggest ocean, why not Future ?

Can we keep the names not too ong and easily pronounceable please? Why not just have our continent be the Old Continent and the other one the New Continent. Or the civilized lands and the barbarian lands?

My favorites:
Kyouri (Ash's name) - our continent
Gyokuchi (fish-shaped land) (Epi's name)- 2nd continent

oceans:
Shorai (Provo's name) is great
Don't like Amateratsu :/
