It really wouldn't have made a difference who was the leader, they all thought that a white god had came to them hundreds of years before, and he was going to come and save them one day... Any other Aztec person would've made the same mistake, they didn't know any better.
Maybe one that didn't believe in the religion.... but they wouldnt elect him.

Even those advisors that did not prescribe to the ancient prophecies saw benefit in a relationship with the Spainards. They had a lot of problems with occupied peoples and these very hardy warriors might prove useful in maintaining power. Its the same reason the natives so willingly worked with the Spanish to eliminate their masters. Spain did not cause the destruction of the Azteca culture, other natives did. Similar story in Africa where people sell each other for temporary gain and the weapons that allowed larger control.

Blaming Montezuma for the end of the Aztec civlization is like blaming Hoover for the Great Depression. They both were there when a long time of mismanaging a future problem finally took its toll.

Spain did not cause the destruction of the Azteca culture, other natives did.

This is a gross oversimplification. The Spanish authorities that were set up succedingly went to great lengths to wipe out the Aztec culture. Their language was made illegal, they were force-converted to Christianity, etc. They had almost no rights.

Further, the majority of the population was killed by epidemics brought in by the Spanish from which they had no defence.

Clearly, both directly and indirectly the Spanish were the cause of most of the destruction of the Aztec as well as other native cultures.

There were actually two Montezumas... The first one, Montezuma Ilhuicamina, was leader from 1440-1469. He formed the triple alliance and extended Aztec control out of the valley of Mexico and all the way to the Gulf coast.
Basically he made the Aztec Empire. I chose to believe that Montezuma of Civ represents this ruler and not Montezuma II...

i have noticed some ppl seem to have a problem with him being in the game, saying he is war monger or if u have him then y not hitler?... well why the hell is hitler so bad?? what did he do?
hes the singel greatest, hell.. the only great french leader in ther history..
