I hope someone here can explain how the Jackpot 5 works?.WTH does a driver need to do in a jackpot race to win one of these?

You mean the No Bull 5? (It's Jackpot 5 in Nascar Thunder.)

The way it used to work is this way:

The first five finishers in a No Bull 5 race were eligible for the No Bull 5 prize in the next No Bull 5 race. If you were an eligible driver and you won a NB5 race, you got $1 million US. Five fans drawn at random were paired up w/ a driver. If their driver won, they also won $1 million.

If there was no winner, the prize did not carry over to the next race. There were five NB5 races per year.

I said "used to" because RJ Reynolds cancelled the promotion this year.

If you wonder how anyone would possibly know this stuff, look at my location tag. It's osmosis.

Yes thats it.No Bull 5.Guess I gave it away abit.I can't seem to win any of these in Thunder 2003 :).I'm glad you answered.

I wish I lived near "big league" track. We do have an Indy street race but our track is Westwood which is a rundown pothole "road" course. Not good at all.A go kart track of sorts :(

I guess you know what I'm doing on Sunday :goodjob:

Uh, playing Thunder till you get blisters on your thumbs?

Seriously, Smash, you live *much* too far north to admit to a Nascar jones...

Me, I live right in the middle of Nascar country ("One, two, Earnhardt, four....) . But your best view of things is on the tube - it's free, you can see everything (the in-car camera is the deal), and your eardrums won't be bleeding by the end of the race.

Actually my left "driving" wrist is getting kinda sore :)

I've watched the good ole boys since the days of Pearson,Petty,Yarborough ETC.

BTW-I won 3 Jackpots now :)

THREE jackpots? Man, Dale Jr., er Smash. I hope you're thanking the sponsors, the boys back in the shop, the good lord, etc. etc. for that kind of performanace ...

Me, I just got the game and am slogging through my first season in career mode. Just got 5th at michigan, but that was after crashing out in the two previous races. Now up to 27th in points. Hoping to do better once my R&D gets going.

And you?

I'm in my 5th season having won the championship in my 4th year.Got a huge point lead with a half dozen races left in year 5.Playing 36 race seasons right now at 5% distance.
All that R&D is starting to payoff.I am at level 3 in everything, working level 4 engine efficiency.

One thing that is annoying me slightly is my team.I am in 1st points wise, average finish of 2.8!! this season and they are still getting unhappy. Can't figure it out.Anybody would be thrilled to be on such a team.

That's odd. I can't crack the top 20 in points, and my crew is thrilled (90+ happiness points) to be on my team. Of course, they're all lousy (skill levels in the mid 50s), and I suspect they know they're lucky to be working at all. The bums.

My guys are in the high 80s and low 90s.They go up each year..as do their salaries.I think it has something to do with their potential #s.The higher the potential, the more they expect of you.But I can't see doing anymore than I have.

I fired a couple that had dropped to under 75 happiness. The instructions say they only perform at the advertised numbers when they are at least 75 happy.I calculate an 86 at 75 is better than a 95 at 65.It also drops the builders abilties. At 75+ they can build you that 87 power but at 70 happy they can only build a 83 power.Adds $ to repairs and overhauls as well.

for the record-I finished 18th in my rookie year with 1 win and 1 pole. The win was by pit strategy rather than driving but a win is a win :)

I guess this has gone off topic now :o

Well, I'm just glad to see that there are some NASCAR fans on CFC. ;)

I never knew how that worked myself, thanks. :)

There are a few of us, gunning, but keep it quiet. Otherwise, you'll attract all of those F1-is-real-racing and Nascar-isn't-really-a-sport folks. ;)

Of course, after that awful Daytona event on Sunday, people can fire away at Nascar. It wasn't much of a race.

not much can be done about the damn rain..or can there?

MANY drivers are keen on Saturday night racing at Daytona and elsewhere. The Shootout ratings were thru the roof and if it does happen to rain on Saturday, you can still have all Sunday to get it in.Sounds darn good to me.Sounds good for Nascar also.

They are making a new IMAX movie about Nascar. Can you imagine on that huge screen?..can't wait for that one :)

I wanna drive the dream car ;)

BTW-I like F1 also and I do beleive Schumacher is the best, but for fender to fender all out in your face racing, you can't beat Nascar.

Well, Fox DID move up the race by 30 minutes - otherwise, it would have had to continue on Monday. There have been some reports that some drivers and owners have urged Nascar to consider making the 500 go a full 500 miles. Michael Waltrip ain't among those arguing that point.

Speaking of rain, the weather forecast down here calls for rain Sat. and Sun. We'll see if Rockingham race gets run.

P.S. I'm a big fan of rally racing - they show a bunch of races on the Speed Channel here. I don't know any of the drivers, but it's fun to watch those little buggies bouncing around in the dirt and snow.

Now rally racing is insane.Going as fast as you can on a course you've never seen, driving by descriptions given by a navigator!..Throw in snow and 1000 ft cliffs or 120 degree desert....sounds like alot of fun actually :)

Why does Mother Nature hate NASCAR?

Can you hear the F1 guys?.."can't race because of a little rain,BAH"

Of course, if the race hadn't been moved up, it would have been Monday and given Dale Jr. a chance.

Up here in the north, the longest race we get is the 300 at New Hampshire.
And last year, we managed to get a rain-shortened race up here.

Well, I'm glad there are a few NASCAR fans here.

Watching the Busch race at Atlanta right now :)

Man, Smash, you're going to have to come down to the states and watch a race if only to keep your series straight. :D

Busch Series was off this week. You were watching an ARCA race. ARCA looks like Nascar, but it's a separate series, meaning it's not under the Nascar umbrella.

More info is here, if you're curious.

If you caught the WC race on Sunday, the only really interesting moment was Labonte's late-race bump of Jeff Gordon. Otherwise, it was a  er.

Ya, you're right.Oh well, racing is racing to me and I'm just a dumb Canuck..The cars look similiar and they go fast :)I even like the trucks.3 across the line at Daytona..that was great.

Nascar is where its at right now. They could lay off the "Thank God for George W" abit though.Luv the crank it up portion of Fox telecasts :goodjob:

Man that last pass by Labonte was scary.I think DW had it right when he said about Gordon "hold on there buddy,I'll get out your way"

You are spoiled if that was a sleeper ;)..I know,I know. The short tracks are coming :D

I usually like the Atlanta race - it's the fastest track on the circuit, thanks to those freakin' restrictor plates. Glad to see Bobby Labonte win one, but he was so dominant that no one else really had a chance.

And, yeah, Darlington's next week, and Bristol is the week after. That's racin' right there.

What is it?..the track that can't be tamed or something like that. The trucks are running at Darlington iirc.Could be interesting. So damn bumpy coming off of turn 2.
