I think what Julian is trying to say is that when you kill the other civs, you get a bonus, but you win when you do that. BUT if you leave a barb city, you don't win, and you still get the bonus.

Ehh don't you only get the bonus for killing all the other Civs if you win by conquest???
I'm pretty sure that there is no extra score for all the Civs you have vanquished before launching the space ship - At least I have never experienced that.
