With native indians the vasalage slingshot from oracle seems very powerfull. If you can also get stoehenge beforehands you can be easily be pumping out drill 4 longbows from all your cities without any instructurs before the AD's since you get thocracy from the prophet? Is there something new that messes up this? Where can i find BTS tech three?

Basically something like worker warrior settler (worker? whipped?) stonehenge letting the 2nd city help expanding with workers and settlers while getting your commerce up and running(some commerce reasources like gems/silver/gold might be needed for this gambit). While teching towards monarchy(after getting writing) and completing the oracle and monarchy in the same turn should allow you to get feud as free tech, shortly thereafter a great phropet should apear which will allow you to bulb theology after researching monotheism, swi|ching to theocracy and vassalage along with having barracks in the cities producing units would allow your longbowmen to come right out of the gates with 10 exp or enough for drill 4 since they are protective. Should be ok. With 3-4 cities at this stage you should be able to crank out an awfull lot of highly experienced longbowmen to beat down your oponents.

Its way too hard to be certain of getting a medieval tech from the oracle (besides theology) Better to not risk losing the oracle and getting CoL/MC/Monarchy.
Sure you may do it a couple of times but you cant do it consistently enough to plan a strategy round it.

Edi: since he's philosophical maybe you can lightbulb monarchy/feudalism. Need to check the preferences.

I have gotten Feudalism from oracle several times before, even got it at emperor. Ofc it is nothing guaranteed and it might not be very doable without a source of high commerce nearby.

well you can afford to get some worker techs before beelining for monarchy i have done this with both AH and BW before monarchy before on emperor however then i had gold both in 1st and 3rd city, ofc AH speeds up writing by 20% anyways and BW speeds up your production tremedously if used right. Cottages might be helpfull to speed up reaserch but i have a feeling it might be too slow and your better off relying on scientists and natural sources of commerce. Ofc natural sources of commerce might be hard to come by but then not all gambits are ment for all starts...

I just pulled this off on Monarch - silver mine in capital and pyramids due to stone in second city helped early research. In the end I was lucky - it was around 600-700 BC when I got Oracle and I could easily have been beaten to it.

It was well worth the risk - getting 10xp longbows after my first great general is awesome. Took out one opponent with longbows while they had archers and vultures. The icing on the cake was that I captured stonehenge from him.

I found drill 2 + cover + combat 1 pretty powerful. Not much need for more than drill 2 since you have more first strikes than anyone you face and upping strength makes those more devastating.

Mix in some CG3 longbows and the occasional combat 2+formation longbow and there is nothing I fear on the battlefield. My second opponent has crossbows and horse archers - but nothing can stop the elite longbows.

I am growing to like Sitting Bull very much.
