[BTS] NC 210, Isabella I. of Castile (1474-1504)

Okay 625bc.
Spoiler 625bc :

Trade routes to Celts set up.
Traded HBR for Alphabet to English and back filled many techs.
War with Eygptians settled with a peace treaty. Took 4 cities and ran out of units. Grabbed Monarchy for peace. She has 2 cities left.

I am losing about 10 gold a turn here. Once I have monarchy and mono I should be able share fav civics with the AI. I have been losing circa 15-24 gold a turn for last 10+ turns.

So to get Ai to friendly.
+2 from gifted resources.
+4 from trade relations.
+3-4 from civics.
Share religion would be nice but no options yet.
Hopefully start a few shared wars if possible. Should of bribed an Ai into Hatty. Forgot. Plus I was late to alphabet.

15 turns from great priest. Could build a temple.

Interesting, with the stipulations. Seems fun.

Spoiler :

Studying the screenie, this is what? Fantasy Realm? So no world wrap?

it is fantasy realm. you can move all over the map, there is no end, you will end up south if you go too far north

Deity NH/NE Turn 100

Spoiler :

Got myself into a somehow questionable position. Originally i wanted to go for an elepult attack, but my decision to settle the phants in the south as 4th city was too slow. Arabia took it from me.

Well after SH i managed to get the Mids, but it was rather late for them. I build them around Turn 73, so quite late and i was lucky i got them. Went up to 5 cities and also changed my mind, now Egypt is gonna get it with a Horse Archer/Elephant and catapult attack. She somehow got 2 elephants and around turn 100 they came available for trade. So i think in the next 2 to 3 turns i attack, i am waiting for 1 or 2 elephants to arrive to my HA /cata stack.

Unfortuantely she also has HR and construction, so she can build elephants. Also did a couple mistakes. Forgot to switch into Police State while producing my army, well Rep is not too bad i guess, but still. Did settle my GP in capital, for some extra :gold: and :hammers:. Not sure if i can achieve the goal of founding a religion. Only taoism and Islam left.

Marble also got available for trade when i started to produce HA, but i dcided against a Lib game this time. I want a standing army to take advantage of wars that are bound to occur and also i am going to continune medieval warfare later with citadel trebs, since i have stone, building walls and castles will be quick.

Spoiler :

Just kind of cute, i deployed a single chariot to maybe snipe the remaining elephant of Hatsche, and it actually worked :D.

Turn 123 Deity NH/NE

Spoiler :
I did cap Hatsche, trading feudalism for CoL and MC with Brennus who was teching slowly. That did ruin my relations with Saladin and Brennus, since they hate Hatsche. So she is left with 3 cities, while i am up to 9 now.

A whopping -7  from Brennus to Hatsche for "first impression is a lasting one". I think that is the first time for me that it was so high in all of my games. Well i don t really care, i have a huge elepult army left over, and after i reach machinery and engineering, brennus will get his beating.

The tech pace of this game is rather slow, no one has paper or nationalism yet, also no one to gunpowder, so another attack with citadel trebs will be quite effective.
For the religious challenge. I will probably fail it, only islam left and i got a GE for my 2nd GP:gp: so a philosophy bulb was out of the window. Not sure what i do with the GE, maybe a GA later, perhaps i can somehow hurry Notre Dame or the Taj, but i think those wonders will be gone when i reach the techs.

Its really hard to achieve your own religion on deity often times, especially when you are forced into an early attack with HR or Construction due to the lack of land. For Islam i would need Theology and then selftech it, i don t think that is a viable option.

Saves? I have not really played my game on much. Are you managing to keep at least one male at pleased? Not sure what date we were meant to do this by.

Turn 196 Deity NH/NE

Spoiler :
The medieval warfare with engineering and super trebs thx to the citadel did really carry my game. Not only i managed to cap Egypt and the Vikings , now also Portugal was crushed and vassaled. Ragnar was just too far behind tech wise, and Joao although he put up a good fight, was derping around too much with nonmilitary techs like SM, biology and physics. A shame, he could have teched rifling all the time. But didnt thought his good friend Isabella would betray him so hard and declare a war.

After reaching Engineering and pumping out a huge army, my economy was hurting a lot though. I barely made any money at 0% research and my cities with size 10 or more building wealth. That left me unable to tech for a long time. But now with city capture gold i managed to reach MT and also got chemistry of the vassal treaty with Joao.

I made really good records with engineering (especially with engineering bulb), city raider 2 trebs are really strong for their period of time. Now that i vassaled Joao, i don t see myself losing the game anymore. Saladin should crumble under an attack with Conquistadors and city raider 3 trebs, supported by my 3 vassals who still have around 4 cities each.

For the challenges though :

Arabia challenge failed : i forgot that i am also not allowed to trade with him, i thought i just need to eliminate him.
Religion challenge failed : Just too hard if you go for an elepult attack and messed up your GP pool with SH and the Mids.
Alliance challenge failed : i don t want to extend this game until i get fascism or communism and make Friedrich happy.

I think the map is fun but too small and the elephants basically secure an easy win, if you don t screw up diplo too badly and get attacked by more than 1 enemy. Even for deity this map was quite easy. A.I. players who don t manage to get more than 7 or 8 cities are just not that scary.

Turn 242 Deity NH/NE Conquest Victory

thanks for the map @Tobiyogi

i really like the idea of your roleplay challenges for Isabella and the the historic introduction for our leader. I think this is an improvement over the usual format NC games have been presented on this forum.

Spoiler :

Well after defeating Joao and vassaling Joao, the game was pretty much in the bag and just a matter of time to grind down the remaining enemies. After Joao i teched to steel and MT to defeat Saladin, because PRO leaders with Cuirassiers on their own are quite hard to take out with just Trebs + maces + pikes.

But he was just too small, and even though i attacked tooe arly and my first stack got wiped out, he had no chance while defending my attacks + the combined attacks from every side from my vassals. Then Friedrich followed soonish after some tech trading and selftech of Assembly Line. Even though it was really not necessary. He had infantry on his own, but he was so small and didn t really have a stack.

Victoria got swarmed from all sides and vassaled after losing 2 small border cities.

Unfortunately i failed all 3 challenges though. Surely if i dedicated more time into the map, it could have been possible, but playing 242 turn on a small map like that is alread quite long. Not sure if my 3 step warfare was the best way to play this map either. Maybe just going for Lib -> MT would have been stronger.

First elepult vs Egypt, later Trebs (citadel) + maces vs Brennus and Joao. canons and Conquistadors vs Saladin and later Rifles/ Cavalry +( in the very end also infantry) vs Friedrich and Lizzy. But for each eras, every attack was very poweful.

Early Elepult attacks are just OP and even deity A.I. usually can t defend. Super CR 3 trebs with citadels allow for very strong engineering warfare and the conquistador allowed another powerful attack in the medieval era. Isabella is just a superb leader.

Thanks for several positive feedbacks. RP challenges are imo a very nice distraction, so other NC games from the same format are very welcome.
But I personally don't know how to write them into the game or the score itself. I can only create ideas and everyone who fulfills the additional conditions must "imagine" the extra victory. :-)

Fantasy realm isn't for me, but I too love the RP/Challenge/Historical introduction. :)

Can only hope for more of the same format in the future!

I suppose the weird combinations of resource + landscape have ruined your day. I love that from time to time, but it is certainly not everyone's taste.

Hey @Tobiyogi , great game! forgot to post, but played it right when it came out.

Loved the challenges, even tough I lost the game as usual, since I got so caught up in founding a religion and spreading it and neglecting the other aspects.

Nice to hear that you liked the map.
I guess the religious challenge was the least easy one as there are two/three Civs who tend to go for several religions. In my game, I had to tech for Divine Right (in the absence of a prophet), in the first place, it pissed me off, but then I saw that it is a great trade bait. Sometimes, the positive aspects of a different strategy than usual are not visible at first sight.
Irony of the sort, when I eventually founded Islam, it was founded in the freshly captured Mecca!

I cheesed out at 1130ad.

Spoiler 1130ad :
Had a mini war with Brennus taking 2-3 of his cities.
Then switched to English. Took her as a vassal with 2 cities left.
Moved back to Brennus and made him my next Vassal.
Got Portugal to friendly.
Declared on Germans to reduce their AP score. Took a size 9 city.
Following turn AP win.

Probably would of been a lot easier to go for domination. Both Germans and Portuguese were pleased with me most of game. Germans more so early on.
