Need aluminum

I have am working on future techs, and my space ship only needs one thing. Everybody else is building their space ships, and it appears that I no longer have any aluminum. I look on the diplomacy board and nobody has any aluminum there either. I searched the map and found some aluminum - too far away to attack. I tried to buy the cities but failed.

Why isn't it visible to trade?

Do I have any hope at all for this game?

are you sure that the civs have more than one source? if not, they won't be able to trade it to you. Also, if they do have an additional source, they may be trading it to another civ. If the civ with aluminum hasn't discovered the tech that displays the resource (rocketry i think) then it won't appear in the diplomacy screen either.

as an aside, no city should ever be too far away to attack. If it's a matter of winning or losing the game, you have to do everything in your power to win. Just load up a few transports with tanks and overrun the city. Then rush build an airport. After the airport gets built you'll be able to start that last component. Even if you lose the city, once you start building the item, production won't stop just because you've lost your source of aluminum.

Like NY Hoya said, if its a matter of winning or losing the game, you gotta give it a shot! You've nothing to lose and could win. So, attack! But go all out, don't partial it (but don't wait too long to have enough strength, either).

As he said, once you've started the part, if you lose the resource, your still golden in that construction continues anyway.


So, plan, but be aggressive. Else there IS no hope.

In my current game I was shocked to see that there was only 1 oil source in the whole world, hidden away in a Tundra tile on the other side of the continent. I was the first to discover Refining, so I did what I had to. Built Cavalry in all my cities and invaded the Atzecs. It was a hard fight against their Infantry, but I finally managed to overrun them. Now I am the only one able to build Tanks and Battleships so taking over the rest of the world is just a matter of turns.
