Need to copy game from old computer to new computer - Disc One is damaged!!

Hello Everyone...

I have a problem that I am hoping someone cam make a sugesstion on how to solve. Here's the details:

I have a new gaming laptop that I am dying to play Civ4 on. Its running Vista Ultimate.

My first disc has a deep scratch in it. When I insert disc one the menu screen opens as usual and gives me the three options: Install, Read Me and Exit. I select install and it waits for a minute or two, the disc spins and few times and then the menu either closes and nothing happens or it simply stays on the menu and allows me to select install again, which has the same effect everytime.

I tried the game on my old laptop and it still plays, I read some forums and realized (stupid that I didnt realize this on my own) that the disc is simply a check and the full game is installed, so I could still play on my old machine with the damaged disc.

I tried a few ways to install the game on the new machine with no success. The disc is simply damaged and I cant install the files on my new machine. I do have the files, IN TACT, on my old machine.

Is there a way to transfer the installed files from my old machine (Windows XP Pro) to my new machine (Windows Vista Ultimate), without disc one?

Or does anyone have a suggestion or idea how I can get the damamged files from disc one that I need to install on my new machine?

Please help... Its killing me I cant play this game on this new computer, it practically what I bought it for!

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!

Same thing happened with me. For some reason the game won't install. So I used my pendrive to transfer the whole "Firaxis Games" folder into Program Files of the Laptop, then I copied the "Civilization IV" folder in My Documents>My Games folder (its needed) to my latops. Works perfectly well. ^_^ Hope it helps. (Use a DVD rewritable CD in case u dont have a pen drive but I highly recommend you get one, preferably since you have a laptop and a comp. 4 GB is good.)

You can also contact Firaxis for a replacement CD. I think that it will cost US $ 5-10 for the replacement and you will have to have proof of purchase. I know that other people on the forum have gotten replacement CDs from Firaxis.

Or you could make a copy of a friend's disc. You won't be able to run the game from the copy, but you can probably install it.

thanks everyone... i actually bought a new game - used it as an excuse to get the warlords + BTS pack...

like learning the game all over again...

Now all you need is the RoM mod for BTS and you will find a WHOLE new game!
