I've already posted a similiar thread at Apolyton (my screen name there is ramses II.). In this forum, a lot of excellent threads can be found.
I'm German, and I've the intention to translate some of them into my native language, just to spread the knowledge of civII in German speaking countries.
But there will also be an English version, which will be completed first (for most of the threads I want to use are in English).. I assure that it will be only for non commercial purposes, the result will be posted here at CFC, at Apolyton and at the German Civilization Webring Forum (most known member: Oedo), so that you can download it. All authors will be mentioned, and there will be a link to the original thread..
It's impossible to name all the excellent authors (ElephantU, La Fayette, Andu Indorin, the Dukes, starlifter and many, many others) and to ask all of them. So if somebody doesn't want his threads to be used or translated, please post it in this thread.

There's a few that have "disappeared", like Starlifter, but most will probably not mind a compilation of ideas - few of ours are original anyway, mostly building on other's comments or discoveries. I hope you're not planning to use one of those automated translation programs... I've not seen many that come close to the original intent.

Thx to you, Duke of Marlbrough and ElephanU.
I took an excellent thread by AGRICOLA and reformatted it.
To give you an impression, I'll post it here for downloads (hope that AGRICOLA
agrees). Please let me know your opinion.

Guten Tag!

No, I don't speak hardly any German, just kidding with you.

You've done some really nice work in gathering all the information. I might print it off for myself it you don't mind. I really like the tables. I found it fasinating that in some tasks, 5 engineers slowed down the job. How queer. This will be quite useful to know, though. So, there is no way to transform land in a single turn no matter how many engineers you put on a spot, huh? Well, thanks so much :) I will be much better in dealing with my engineers and settlers because of that information.

@jadelicia
Give your thanks to AGRICOLA - the thread and the tables are his work. I only reformatted the text.
At the Moment I'm working with William Keenan's Barbarian Paper.
All these threads and many more will appear in my Strategy Guide.

Gruss Gott!

Actually, there is but it is complicated. You can only have two "working" at one instant, but if you click one higher in the stack to take him "off", the one below him will "hold" the work, then set one below that one to work and the "accumulated work" will transfer to him, then click the upper one off, ad nauseum. I have used stacks of 5 and 10 myself occasionally, but it is VERY hard to keep them straight unless they are all from different cities and you carefully note the order of the stack.

My favorite combo is an "irrigation/farmland" stack of 3 - two Engineers and a Settler. Assuming you are doing grassland or plains and everything already has roads (add an Engineer ahead of the stack to do that if they don't), slide the Engineer in first and start the I. Then send the Settler in and I, and click the Engineer to clear his work, which has now been transferred to the Settler (2nd to arrive). Now send the last Engineer in and I, and you will have irrigation or farmland done in one turn.

For complex transformation jobs, I find it easier just to move all the Engineers out of the square that they worked on last turn, and start the process over; a little more time-consuming, but it obviates the need to keep note of the stacking order. In the end game where "terraforming" becomes a global operation, I've too many stacks to keep track of.

I suppose my favorite "quick" transform job is the ten Engineer "Forest to Grassland/Farmland" in 2 turns (plus two "Engineer turns"). One Engineer builds road into forest; when complete, 9 Engineers enter to irrigate square to farmland; next turn, the ten Engineers leave and then return to transform it to Grassland.

For me - not an addict, but still a learner - it's fascinating to listen to the grandmasters of CIV

@ sethos - Yah no kidding.

ElephantU - It must be complicated. I'm not even sure I understood all you said. You'd think they'd make it simpler. Oh well.

@ElephantU
A.F.A.I.K, starlifter is a member of the U.S.A.F. - maybe he's somewhere on a flat top (carrier) or in the Middle East or Afghanistan...Hpe he comes back soon, I had some contact with him some months ago. He wrote excellent threads about specal fields.
He told me that he has been in Germany, too, during his job.

Take a bow yourself both for your project and the superb reformatting. :goodjob:
