Take a wonder like Pyramids or Sun Tzu's Art of War in which an improvement is placed in each city on the continent/empire. Does this mean that I get

a) the benefit that particular improvement offers
b) the cost of maintaining that improvement
c) the culture, if there is any, that the improvement offers
d) any pollution that improvement creates

I'm speculating that all you get is (a) but I don't know for sure.

What I'm wondering is if, say, its worth it to build temples in each city, even if I already have the Temple of Artemis, in order to generate extra culture, or would that be redundant?

This is a huge issue for the Internet, especially if you have a large empire because you might be able to build research labs in say 30 cities in 10 turns or less bumping up your culture score by an additional 60 points per turn (and you might have about 100 turns left by this point) but this might be wasteful if the Internet invalidates it all. And if you have closer to 50 cities, the culture of the Internet is even greater.

Also, since you need a University to build a research lab, do you need a University for a particular city to reap the benefits of the Internet?

And one final question: if I have some improvements in my cities and then get a Wonder which effectively acts as those improvements in those cities, could I sell them in a pinch for more gold and otherwise recognize no other impact until the Wonder is made obsolete?

You get A, C, and D, but C does not increase with time - a Temple is normally 2 Culture, increasing to 4 Culture after 500 Years (or whatever), but with the Temple of Artemis, the Temples will only generate 2 Culture no matter how long they stand.

You do not need prerequisite Improvements - new cities after the Internet will start with Research Labs, for example (making simple Culture increase easy). You can sell pre-existing Improvements that are provided by a Wonder, although I don't know if you can do this past the turn in which the Wonder is built or you acquire the city.

I recall reading that what those wonders do is create the granted Improvement at the beginning of each turn, which is why the Culture doesn't improve. Don't know where I read that, though.

I think if you don't have a university you get culture from the research labs, but not an increase in beaker output. Likewise the Hoover-build hydro plants don't help if you don't have a factory.

If you are playing a 100K game, it may be worth building some temples before you get the ToA, as built temples will get double culture after 1000 years. Be aware that you cannot build temples while the ToA is working (nor can you build research labs after building the Internet) and the ToA-provided temples will disappear if you learn education.

After getting a wonder that makes buildings, you no longer have to pay upkeep on any of the buildings, even if you built it before acquiring the wonder. You can sell the previously built buildings at any time, but you will then lose them if you lose the wonder or it expires.

I haven't really tested it (and maybe you have), but I think it's *you can't start new temples* if you have the ToA. But, if you started a temple before you finished the ToA, you can finish a temple that you've already started.

I think you are right; it is "can't start", not "can't build". I know this is true for barracks.
