I am considering buying as a gift, a Kindle Fire or a Netbook. It would mostly be used for web browsing, mostly Facebook and YouTube. At first I considered a Kindle but they do seem that would strain my budget. (200 bucks is pricy for me, considering my income)

This site seems questionable

Considering a few from Amazon because I am a Prime Member and get free shippng
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...-keywords=netbooks+under+200&sprefix=Netbooks

I have looked at netbooks there, if its just for web browsing, would one of those be ok?

I only have experience of the larger and more powerful x86 Atom netbooks - but AFAICT, you're looking at the same kind of hardware platform, i.e., ARM devices running Android, so it seems to me more a question of which form you like - something with a physical keyboard, or a touchscreen that's a bit more portable?

A shame that none of the netbook style ones seem to come with touchscreens (are there any at all?) - another concern might be how well Android runs with a keyboard and touchpad rather than touchscreen? (Unless you go for one of the Windows CE ones.)

Can you try them out in a shop? Aside from seeing how well they run, I think it's a good idea with netbooks to get one with a keyboard you like.

ETA: Another low end media tablet to consider might be the Vizio VTAB which is now at a similar price to the Fire (e.g., see http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/vizio-tablets/24297-vizio-vtab-vs-amazon-fire.html ). Plus there are other ones out there, like the Archos Android media players.

I'd personally go with the Kindle Fire. $200 is pretty good, and since you're a prime member there's a bunch of free stuff you get with it. Yeah, you could do the same with the netbook, but it would be easier via amazon if you've already got the prime.

$80 is extremely questionable for a netbook.

I've never seen them less than $299 $250 $229 each from reputable stores.

E.g.: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=772&name=Netbooks&Tpk=netbook
, BestBuy, Staples, etc... Those are essentially new or refurbished, not "used".

IDK what you'd like better. Did you want to do some gaming as well on this? eBooks? Streaming media? Open up Powerpoint notes during a lecture?

Note that these are the higher end and larger x86 based netbooks, running full Windows 7 - that's what I thought he meant too at first, but the links refer to small (7") ARM based Android netbooks. Of course not as good - but then neither will be an ARM tablet.

My partner has recently got a Vizio VTAB, which is a similar 8" Android tablet, in a similar price range to Amazon's Fire, so that seems to be another one that's perhaps worth checking out.
