Netgear Router Issue

Let me preface by saying I have searched all over, read the sticky, and tried for countless hours to open the ports on my Netgear FVS318 router. It just isn't happening and I think I might kill some baby kittens soon out of frustration.

I spoke to support at 2kgames and they told me to update to newest version of civ4, and also to download the newest directX from microsoft, both of which I did.

Someone please help me I just want to be a ruthless diety.

EDIT:

The exact problem I am having is when I enter my username and PW at the multiplayer login screen it "skips"-for lack of a better word for an instant and I am right back where I was, with it prompting me to login.

Whoever helps me I will fellate until the end of days.

the infinitely easier way is to put yourself in the DMZ.

i have this exact same problem and use a netgear router!
