I recently got Neverwinter Nights, the original, with all the expansion packs and campaigns. It is probably my favorite game, just ahead of Civ 3 (look at me, behind the times in everything). Anyone else play/has played it?

I have. However sometimes i get bored with it.

I beat the shadows of undrentide campaign and was pleasently suprised when they added epic levels to hordes of the underdark. :)

It is very fun but sometimes it annoys me. Its hard to explain.

I like the epic levels. Right now I have lots of characters, but my main one was doing Hordes - for some reason there was a bug and I couldn't fight the main guy, so now she is in Infinite Dungeons (all monsters, all treasure, all the time. No need for "plot".)

I found it to be a huge let down after Baldur's Gate2. Some modules are fun to play with friends, however (i remember one, where we had to follow Date's journey through hell and another one where we eventually got to fight some spider goddess).

One of my all time favorites. Completed as:

Dwarvern Defender
Weapon's Master
Sorceror
Monk
Arcane Archer
Cleric
Paladin

I tried it, but it just grated compared to BG2. I disliked the engine, and the 3rd edition rules. It was clunky and dark.

I bought the same "complete" version you did, and I never made it through more than a couple of minutes of the first game before I got bored with the whole thing.

Supposedly, the single player game is lackluster, but the real reason to play NWN is the enormous amount of player-created content available out there.

Mods always improve upon a gaming experience, but there is great stuff still being bought out for BG2 that is better in my view than the NWN material. Then again, my issues did include the engine, so that will impact on my view of that part.

I keep trying to get into the game, but always get a bit bored after a while. It was extremely fun playing alongside a friend though, but that had the disadvantage that he knows the game through and through.

It was, as Simon says, literally quite dark. I never really thought of that until now.

I like it, but as others have mentioned, i rather BG 1 and 2. There are also plenty of mods and hakpaks available on the net that would enhance your playing experience.

I thought the first campaign was so-so, the first expansion pack was more or less the same. I really did enjoy playing the second expansion pack, especially after you enter the Underdark. The Hordes expansion was one of the few RPGs where I thought the evil side of the game was more fun than playing the goodie. Plus, if you do the evil side, there is great, though short, series of player modules (The Gods Themselves Trilogy, be warned there's a spoiler for the evil ending in the description) that take place as a sequel for an evil HotU character.

And speaking of which, the player-made content is by far the best thing about NWN. For starters there's the CEP, a huge mod that contains tons of additions, including new weapons; new monsters; new clothing; tons of new objects; more character animations; mounts; flying; other graphics; shields with heraldic crests; and absolutely best of all, capes on armour.

After that, there's the ton of utterly brilliant player-made modules available. If you're interested, start Here, as virtually ever module there is of top quality. If you want something a bit less High Fantasy than your average D&D Campaign, I'd highly recommend The Wanderer. As much as a game set in a world with wizards and dragons can be, it manages to be very realistic. Nobody knows you at First Level; quests which NPC's say are time related actually are, as opposed to like normal RPGs where something's only time-related if there's an onscreen countdown, regardless of what people say; your main concerns are surviving rather than saving the world,; etc. etc..

Other than that I'm not sure what else I can say.

I still play NWN, though amazingly enough, I've never played the single player game. The persistent worlds were the draw for me, and a bunch of other old pnp players.

The best, imo, is The World of Amon, a huge, long running PW, and a great place for epic play. New content is still being added, and there's a great bunch of friendly players always willing to help newcomers.

If anyone's interested in checking it out, feel free to shoot me a PM, I can give you a few pointers if needed.
