Frustrated Mac Curmudgeon
Brad...
Pleased to report that the editor works under 10.1.4 however, when trying to edit a .bic file I've previously worked with on the PC with the hacked editor, I do get the "Assertion failed, file: <file and line information>" message.
I do not get this message whenever I start with a brand new .bic file.
Other things I have noted. Keeping in mind the problem people have had with clicking to change numbers, I have taken to manually entering them. This does not always work. For instance, in playing around with the scenario I made for Inventor Of Mac, I ended up trying to change the units the human player starts with. each time I did this, I would either have to click apply, or lose starting units, or it would switch back to the default settler worker and nothing else selected.
Edit Improvements/Wonders: In the PC editor, there's an option "Replaces all improvements with this checkbox clicked" or words to that effect... This is so the coal plant/solar plant/nuclear plant can replace each other. This option is not available in the Mac editor.
Changing the number of civilizations does not take effect, in fact some times upon loading saved scenarios, entire sections appear missing. For instance, I have seen the following vanish from the screen. Selection of civilizations to play against... BLANK... not just grayed out selection dropdowns, but just a blanks section. Blanked out victory condition selections.
At some points in the editor, the dropdown for changing the frequency of barbarians does not allow you to change.. kinda hard to increase the number of barbarians, eh?
When changing Civilizations, I've noticed that with each click on their build options, the city names changed I've only seen this happen once, with France. Orleans changed the "e" to 6 different characters each time I changed France's Build Never/Build Often options.
Upon loading, or starting a new .bic file, the map at first isn't visible. It does, however, show up, once you click on either of the scroll bars on the map... scared me at first!!!
Thank you so much for doing this, particularly getting the editor running for those of us on sub-jaguar machines.
FWIW the Mac Editor is faster than the PC editor. I even ran the two side by side last night. G3/266MHz (Overclocked from stock 233) 384 MB RAM OSX 10.1.4 vs a 600MHz Celeron, Windows 2000, 256 MB RAM.
