Considering that the game has had some backlash related to leaders "historical accuracy" or leaders being separated from their civilizations, I think that every leader should have a corresponding civilization to match with historically. Not strictly tying civilizations with leaders, but at least giving players the option to, at some point, match their leader with their historical civilization.

With that in mind, I would love to see the following civilization being introduce in future DLCs for existing leaders that don't have a corresponding civilization right now:

  • Amina: Hausa (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by her and by Songhai)
  • Confucius: Zhou (Ancient Era civilization, unlocks Ming, Mongolia and Vietnam)
  • Himiko: Yayoi (Ancient Era civilization, unlocks Edo)
  • Ibn Battuta: Morocco (Exploration Era civilization, unlocked by him, Carthage and Rome)
  • Isabella: Castile (Exploration Era civilization, unlocked by her, Rome, Carthage and Greece. Unlocks Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the Philippines)
  • José Rizal: Philippines (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by him, Castile and Majapahit)
  • Lakshmibai: Maratha (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by her, Chola and Mongolia)
  • Machiavelli: Florence (Exploration Era civilization, unlocked by him, Rome and Greece. Unlocks Italy and France)
  • Simón Bolívar: Colombia (or Gran Colombia) (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by him, Castile, Inca and Rome)

I think Spain being exploration spells doom for Castile.
Considering they have "Castille" as an unlock for Modern "Spain" I take it they think there should be redesigns. I'm not sure how likely it will be though.

Anyway, I think Charlemagne was missed alongside a Franks/Carolingian civilization. It could be Exploration unlocking France and Prussia.

There's the idea of Spain being renamed to Castile to make room for a Modern Spain, but the Modern Age Lisbon IP makes me think that that's the plan for if Iberia is ever revisited in the future.

My initial thoughts:
Amina: Hausa (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by her and by Songhai)
Would definitely be nice to have more of Africa in the game. Hope we can see something like this.

Confucius: Zhou (Ancient Era civilization, unlocks Ming, Mongolia and Vietnam)
I highly doubt it, with Han in the game and occupying the same "Age," it'd be at the very least weird. But I think if they were going to do something like this with any long-existing empire, it'd probably be China. So maybe, but I don't expect it (and I suspect that Firaxis thinks that Han represents Confucius closely "enough.")

Himiko: Yayoi (Ancient Era civilization, unlocks Edo)
Yeah, I fully expect to see Yayoi, and probably Edo as well, eventually. Kind of surprised that they haven't already added them in DLC, but also I can see why Silla/Korea takes priority there.

Ibn Battuta: Morocco (Exploration Era civilization, unlocked by him, Carthage and Rome)
Again, I think this is reasonably likely.

Isabella: Castile (Exploration Era civilization, unlocked by her, Rome, Carthage and Greece. Unlocks Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the Philippines)
Very unlikely, I'd say. While Castille would be more exact, Isabella is already represented by Spain. Alsways possible to make a modern Spanish civ and rebrand the Explo Spain as Castille, of course - I just don't see it happening.

José Rizal: Philippines (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by him, Castile and Majapahit)
This would also be cool. We're getting a lot of SEA, which is great, but I think also makes this one a lower priority than others, though.

Lakshmibai: Maratha (Modern Era civilization, unlocked by her, Chola and Mongolia)
See above re: Confucius.

Yes please to both of these. I've been begging for a Florentine Civ basically since I started playing this series.

You're right, I missed Charlemagne. He could either get a Francia/Franks civ or a Holy Roman Empire one in the exploration era, with either of them unlocking France (not "Imperial France", just "France") or Prussia (though, Germany would be more fitting, tbh).

Regarding that region of the world, it'd be interesting to have Maria Theresa return, she's the ideal leader to mix and match with historical correspondings civs for her, such as Austria and/or Hungary. Charles V could also work with Castile, Austria and/or the HRE.

Not strictly tying civilizations with leaders,
You know what?

You're right. Kill them all. We can do without these "leaders"
All of the Pre-Bronze age collapse civs were matriarchal. No Kings. No Leaders. Only tribal councils. Except those with a God-King already obviously.
It's a propagandistic stretch to enforce "Leaders" on any civs to my eyes.
Any civ should first shift to some kind of "God-King" believe first, then we can have Leaders...
Native american nations to this day, rebuke the concept of leaders, that is a fact.
They exist in -dark mode- but they are there... same thing with the Shardans...

Imo Confucius with all the Chinese civs, Isabella w/ Spain and Himiko w/ Meiji Japan (and soon Lakshmibai w/ the India civs) already have 'their' civs, I'm not bothered by them not having their exact historical counterpart - in previous games the Leader and the historical timeframe of the civ haven't always matched up exactly anyway, Himiko leading a Meiji-era Japan wouldn't have been all that out of place in civ 6 for instance.

What does bother me is the pseudo-associated civs (Norman Charlemagne, Mexican Bolivar, Hawai'ian Rizal), I hope those leaders get their actual civs sooner than any others.

I'd still like Japan to span across 3 ages. Though I'd rather the first one be Heian Japan.

Don't do it, don't give me hope.

jokes aside, I'd love to have Castile, that way we can make space for both the Reconquista, and the Spanish Empire.
