Civ VI is a long way away. But I was wondering if anyone else was thinking about how we want the civs released. I am following a few trends from games past
Note: I have created this thread assuming there will be no more Civs released for Civ 5. I understand that there have been minor hints on DLC's coming out this fall, but bear with me. Below I give 43 civs that fall under one of the following catergories 1) flagship 2) fan favorite 3) diversity. That being said, just because I don't include a civ in this Civ 6 thread does not mean I do not like them or how they play in Civ 5, I just think that this combo will make Civ 6 even better than Civ 5. Lastly, I have followed the number of Civilizations released in Civ 5 and the manner in which they were released. They appear in no particular order when listed (except in DLC's). I have also included two leaders for each civ, so my apologies if it appears a lot like Civ VI. I tried introduce some leaders too and keep the ones we've grown accustomed
Civilization 6 (18 civs)
Guaranteeds (no particular order)
It would be very surprising if one of the following civs was left out of vanilla:
1. Rome (Julius, Augustus)
2. England (Churchill, Victoria)
3. China (Qin Shi Huang, Zhu Yuanzhang)
4. America (Lincoln, Washington)
5. Germany (Bismark, Frederick)
6. Russia (Peter, Catherine)
7. India (Gandhi, Asoka)
8. France (Napoleon, Louis XIV)
9. Egypt (Ramesses II, Hatshepshut)
10. Greece (Alexander, Pericles)
11. Arabia (Saladdin, Harun Al-Rashid)
12. Aztecs (Montezuma II, Ahuitzotl)
13. Persia (Darius, Cyrus)
14. Japan (Tokugawa, Oda Nobunaga)
Upgrades from DLCs
The following civs were DLCs in Civ V but have been vanilla civs before and have some popularity with players:
15. Mongol (Genghis, Kublai)
16. Spain (Isabella, Ferdinand II)
Introductions to Civ
Civ V introduced Songhai and Siam
Civ IV introduced Mali
17. Kongo (Mbokani Mavinga)
18. Pueblo* (Pope*)
*The Pueblo are the civ that never was. I understand it is very unlikely that a deal can be struck, but Firaxis does have a little time. In the event nothing goes through, I have a backup layout at the bottom
DLCs (7 civs)
Civs that will be available before the 1st expansion
19. Inca (Pacachuti, Huayna Capac)
20. Ottomans (Mehmed II, Sulieman)
21. Korea (Sejong, Wang Kon)
22. Vikings [Back to being just the Vikings] (Ragnar, Erik the Red)
23. Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar, Hammurabi)
24. Indonesia (Gajah Madah, Ken Arok)
25. Mali (Sundiatta, Mansa Musa)
Expansion A (9 civs)
Previously a Vanilla Civ
26. Iroquois (Hiawatha, Dekanawida)
Gods and Kings Carry-overs
27. Byzantium (Justinian I, Maurice)
28. Maya (Pacal,Yik'in Chan K'awiil)
29. Ethiopia (Zara Yaqob, Haile Selassie)
31. Carthage (Hannibal, Dido)
32. Netherlands (William of Orange, Frederick Henry of Orange)
Brave New World Carry-overs
33. Portugal (Joao II, Afonso I)
34. Zulu (Shaka)
Brought Back
35. Sumer (Gilgamesh)
Expansion B (9 civs)
Gods and Kings Carry-overs
36. Austria (Maria Theresa, Henry Jasomirgott)
37. Celts (Boudicca, Brennus)
Brought Back
38. Sioux (Sitting Bull)
39. Hittites (Merselis)
40. Khmer (Suryavarman II)
Introductions to Civ
41. Phoenecia (Ithobaal I)
42. Canada (Pierre Trudeau)
43. Australia (John Curtin
Flex Civ: Sweden
I add this in case a certain civ, like the Pueblo.
In the event that the Pueblo are a no go again, the Inca should take the Pueblo spot, the Iroquois should take the Inca spot, and the Sioux should fill the Iroquois spot. Leaving Sweden to fill the left over spot.
Civs not carried over
Songhai and Siam- like Mali of Civ 4, were introduced for diversity and replaced previous civs that had filled those geographic locations
Polynesia- A worthy civ but not all can be in the game
Huns- Questionable as to if they are a "civilization"
Shoshone- kinda just tossed in BNW
Venice- Very cool idea, but Civ VI probably won't be as Europe heavy
Brazil- I question my decision to take them out and put in Canada/Australia
Morocco- Adding a new African Civ makes them less necessary
Assyria- See Hittites.
Poland- See Venice rationale
Note: Once again this was done under the assumption that there will be no more civs released. Maybe if we get a thread going discussing what we liked about how civs were released Firaxis can see for future. Civ 6 is a long way away, though
