New Conquest: Middle East in the Reign of Heraclius

Wow, loads of work Xen :goodjob:

I really like some of them.

The problem is that I need to keep it below 6 (prefereably 5) MBs. I have to prioritize slightly. Currently, the Beserk is being used for "Germanic Mercenary", the swordsman for "Armenian", the "knight" for Roman Emperor and his brother, and the Enkidu Warrior for a Persian general, and the Keshik for "Turkic Nomad", the Inquisitor for Patriarch, and the Immortals for "Persian Infantry".

Bowman, Archers, warriors (Turks), Dromons, settlers, scouts, horseman, ancient cavalry, holy relic and ansars are standard.

The Units for the "Local Militia", "footman", "Slav", "Horse Archer", "Cataphract", "Avar", "Ethiopian" and "Arabian Horseman" are imported.

The one I've already decided to change is the Enkidu Warrior for Persian general, as it is clear that he really ought to be on horseback

Looks cool!

OK. I think I will also rename the buildings and wonders in the scenario. I didn't do this before, because I didn't know the effects...but I just played an experimental game where I renamed these buildings....and it didn't crash!

I'd lke to rename all the techs too, flavor them, and redistribute them. DOes anyone know what must be done to do this safely?

Thanks :goodjob:

all these changes are adding up to the where I would rather wait and play the next version, then play this one, and potentially lose interest in playing agai n- besides, while not fo the same time period exactley, I'm working what I liek to call a "hyper-map"- a map with preplaced cites on an epic scale- the byzantine/Eastenr Roman empire has 70-80 cites, and could still use abotu 10 more to fully extend its territory to that of being able to well represent the eastern Rome Roman to pre Justinian era expansion of it... the problem is i dont knwo who else I want to includ on the map yet really ;)

don't mean to be picky but why's babylon in the middle of egypt?

some minor mistake i'm sure

The scenario has been updated. I probably won't update again for a good while. If there are any serious issues - which there shouldn't be, since I tested it - I'll release a patch. :D

Changes

Units

I took some of the units Xen linked, and used them to replace a couple of the current ones for:
1) Persian Infantry
2) Germanic Mercenary
3) Cataphract

4)The Rider, rather than the Enkidu Warrior is being used for the 4 Persian generals

Feel free now, I won't be updating for a while - if at all :D
Definitely not until I get actual real feedback from those who've actually played it. :goodjob:

Give me a buzz when you've done your "hyper-map"! ;)

oh peachy, right now I'm to pissed at assorted things to give a great notice to it- but as a general rule, I actually think that the chinese rider wuld also make a good turkic cavalryman, and thatthe eastern cataphract, clad in gold as it is, shoul dbe the persian general, and the Roman cataphract represetn the meperor and his bro

Yeah...I've not adding a meg or something for the generals! :)

I'm quite pleased with the Keshik. It's a cool unit  , and does what I was looking for. :goodjob:

you say it so cheerfully that I'm not sure if your saying you are or arnt going to add those units ;)

Just Heraclius.; step cross of course :)

Note the prominence of the Cross. It occurs prominently in the coins of Tiberius II Constantine - who also came under severe foreign pressure - but never so prominently even here....or ever before.

Incidentally, check out this Ummayad coin ('Abd al-Malik):

I wouldnt rely on those frescos for a very accurate dipictionof heraclius Calgacus- they from the same artists who dipected greek heros as gothic knights, and were only drawing what was known to them, not an accurate portrayal of troops from times bpast, or even fron thier presetn times aside from what was right out side thier town in the big manoral estate on the hillside ;)

Eh...Xen, you should know I'm not that stupid  ;)

Check out Albrecht Altdorfer portrayalof the battle of Issus

Of course, being the ultimate and the "First" Crusader, Heraclius went into medieval legend. :goodjob:

(BTW, I just love those coins :D )

I know your not, but it dosent sound good when I sday "hey, everybody else reading the thread, dont rely on those nice pictures just posted by calgacus because they are wrong, and even though he knows that he posted them anyway- please disregard, and move along" dose it :p
