Hello , I'm looking forward to a long relationship w/ the fanatics forum ,
as I'm compulsive w/ 'puter games that I love. I played Civilization 1 until I had to replace my 'puter , and it was no longer was compatable. I've not played since.
I waited many years to "re-indulge" myself in Any game , now , I am about to "over-indulge" once again , thou , this time it would appear that there is a site for others of my ilk ! Great News !
My question is , does WarLords add on translate to online multi-player ?
I won't recieve my copy of Civ IV for another 4-5 days. Is there an advantage to "plugging in " Warlords ASAP ? Assumming that I become good enough for online play , will I be at a disadvantage w/o W.L. upgrade ?
My understanding was that Civ IV has the online play capibility , W.L. not. But , W'L. alone will not enable you to play anything , w/o first owning Civ IV.

Thank you all for any replys , Dand ...

welcome
warlords is cheap and worth it paying £15 because most mods are warlords compatability

howdy and welcome!

warlords is weird, it's not stand-alone, you do have to have civ4, but they install separately and you can choose to play vanilla even after you install warlords. you can play either one online.

i always point new people to Civ4 War Academy for some great articles/tips/hints/etc. don't read it all before you dive in, you'd go crazy, but it is a great resource.

Welcome to the forums, Dand!

FWIW, here is a link to the Warlords Info Center, which has details on what the Warlords expansion adds to the core game.

Personally, I think it is well worth it, but that's probably the prevailing opinion you'll get anyway when asking a bunch of fanatics for their thoughts. ;)

As has been mentioned, you can play online either way (although I'd guess that Warlords games will become more and more prevalent as time goes on), so it's pretty much your call if you want to become acclimated with Vanilla Civ4 first or just dive right into the expansion.

Good luck either way, welcome back to glorious Civ, and welcome to the forums! :band:

I don't see any harm in getting to know CivIV "vanilla" before going on to Warlords. Certainly there's more than enough in the game to pique one's interest. If you start with Warlords, you may find that you never go back and try the vanilla game.

Besides, why invest more money than you need to in order to find out whether you like the game? Vanilla and Warlords aren't that much different.

Welcome to CFC! :bday:
