Greetings!

I am closing very fast on a culture victory with Germany. I am on a HUGE map with 9 other civs (epic speed). I wanted to see what it was like to play both Germany and not go for a Science. Here are some observations and notes. I set the distance of all majors from me to 15 instead of the default 9. Game felt GREAT and distance from my neighbors was good enough for both (Aztecs and Scythia) to leave me alone for a good part of Ancient and Classical eras. If they are close they will war, otherwise they were busy expanding. And expand they did, both empires had 5 cities with the extra room modded in!

  • The Hansa is Amazing and it easily one of the best unique buildings of all the Civs. Production is everything and the Hansa can fix just about ANY problem you have because it makes things happen!
  • Naval warfare while lacking is fun. I have seen England create fleets and escort her armies to my shore thinking I would be like overrun and such. I wanted to see her do it so I let her.
  • Now that I understand how Tourism and Culture work, this type of victory is cool but really only requires me to build Theater districts and run great person cards. Its not very 'interactive' but can be ok if you want a 'slower paced' game.
  • There is a snowball effect as you get better policies which double tourism of great works like music or tourism in general from trade with other civs. This speeds up the win and is ok but again really a 'hands off' type of game.
  • Resource distribution even on 'plenty' is the suck. (5) oil on the ENTIRE huge Map!! While I had 5 Uranium in my empire alone and 3 of which I had under an existing mine..Booya!
  • Early game warmongering is fun. Nothing going on in late game I think due to the penalty.
  • Babylon loves to have an ally and it was me! This and the warmongering penalty I am pretty sure kept everyone from DoWing me late game, even though I was rude and demanded things and put troops on borders!

Game is fun, hands down Fun. I feel the price paid (60 USD) was worth it. If you are on the fence, don't let the neg review sway you. Get the game and lose an entire weekend like I did!

America is great for cultural too There's much more of a push/pull effect with tourism in Civ6 than is more opaque in Civ5 BNW

So you could with proper planning go from bottom tier tourism to top tier all in the final third or quarter of your game. As your tourism level rises you can immediately see it affecting the tourism fron other Civs.

Increasing your tourism also pushes down the internal tourists of whoever is the tourism leader (assuming it is not the human player) so you are increasing your tourism and reducing the threshold to win.

It's fairly well thought out if a bit easy to win. A few tweak and they will get there

Well science victory could be done in that way as well, i was bottom for the most game in my Immortal play through but I got all 4 space race related great person and just slingshot my way on to the top and nick the victory

Also on topic, you can lower the victory threshold for foreign tourist needed to attract?

Yeah, the Hansa is pretty awesome. It takes effort to get less than 4 adjacency (commercial district plus 2 resources), then with the double adjacency bonus policy card, that's a massive bonus. And with Germany's ability to build an extra district too, there's no way you won't be able to get them up. And then with all those commerce districts, you get a ton of trade routes too to add even more. I only discovered late that I could squeeze in another city, and since it was already bordering 3 factories, it was able to be productive basically right away. Then once it got its own Hansa+factories up, there was no stopping.

Good post OP. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm also going for a cultural victory right now but I'm playing as France on a standard Inland Sea map. I like the map but the two 9-tile civs wanted to fight right away. Good thing the AI are pushovers when it comes to combat.

Everything about Germany is op, used correctly. Today I quit my second Germany game, half-way through, because it's just too strong and not fun.
