New Member and a New Mod

Hey everyone, this is my first post here at CFC and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce a new mod i'm working on. It's based on Blizzard's wonderful Warcraft series. I've already started work on the map and plan to use some units from this site(if it's okay with the creators of course) but if anyone would like to help, you are welcome. I would like any feedback as to any possible interest as to whether or not I should continue or if anyone is willing to assist. This post will also be continually be updated so anyone interested can see the progress we've made without sifting through the entire thread.

Monarchy, Magocracy, Tribal Warchief, Shamanism, Death Cult, Demonic Rule, Nature Worship

Resources:
Gold, Lumber, Oil, Cattle, Naga, Dragons, Iron, Mithril, Sacred Grove, Nerubians, Kodo Beasts, Trolls, Horses, Saltpeter, Nexus of Magic, Dire Wolves, Bats, Wyverns, Taurens, Giant Turtles, Gryphons, Dragonhawks, Hippogryphs, Ancients, Corpses, Dragonblight, Demon Gate, Gnolls, Pandarens, Ogres, Corrupted Grove

Eras:
Orcs & Humans, Tides of Darkness, Reign of Chaos, Frozen Throne

Culture Groups:
Human, Orc, Elf, Dwarf, Evil
 
I was thinking of making each of the Human Nations their own civilization(all in a locked alliance of course), and then each of the major races(Orcs, Taurens, Night Elves, High Elves, Dwarves, and Undead). The different creeps would most likely be barbarians.

I like the ideea and I want to help. I think that this mod could come to life very fast as there are a lot of units and leaderheads that are already created.
The best way that I can help is with the map (if you'll allow me to modify it) - adding resources, civs landmarks etc - everything it needs for a great game.
I can also do some research and offer my sugestions on the tech-tree + writing civilopedia entries. Alas, I can not do units :( (maybe this summer I'll learn but untill that moment...) but as I pointed out we already have tons of fantasy units made by Aaglo and Kinboat( :worship: ) and others that will make the job easier.
So, if Blizzard doesn't shut us down first (let'em try! :lol: ), I wish you good luck and offer my assistance.
A first sugestion: you should add the Burning legion too.

Take a minotaur and dress him in native american indian garbs and you've got a Tauren. They are very very very spiritual people. In their capitol they've got plenty of huge bongs standing around. Haven't seen anybody use them though.
 
Scytale you are more than welcome to modify the map as you see fit, that's why I released it so soon. As for the units I have already downloaded many of the fantasy units and wrote down the names of their creators so they can be properly credited. Soon I will make a list of the units that are still needed and maybe one of the creators at this site will take on the task(aaglo, Kinboat, hope you're listening). I look forward to everyone's suggestions and with all of your help we can surely make this mod a reality.

P.S. I was thinking of making the demon units(Buring Legion) part of the Undead since it was the Legion that created the Undead. :devil:
 
You need to be careful with any mod that references anything by Blizzard, they are extremely anal about these things, and I wouldn't be surprised if they took some sort of legal action.

Providing they ever find out about it.

Well let's just hope they don't find out and it will be our little seceret ;) . Btw here are some units I can think of off the top of my head that we will need made.

Units:
Dreadlord
Infernal
Demon Warlock
Chaos Orc Warlock
Chaos Orc Grunt
Chaos Orc Raider
Nerubian
Furbolgs
Kodo Beast

More will be added later
 
I think you'll be able to find a large amount of those units have already been made, or at least a suitable substitute.
 
I have already dowloaded the units on that list, what I was hoping is that people could make possible additions to it.

It is exactly why we should have a separate Burning legion civ with chaos orcs as starting units and demons later. Anyway it's your choice :) , but I think that there are enough units to have two separate civs: the undead and the devils. You have a very nice line of undead units originaly made by aaglo for the Sylvania civ in Warhammer mod.

BTW what civ will be able to buid nagas?

I also have an ideea how to use the gnolls: make them available as mercenaries for the civs on the western continent (mainly humans, orcs and dwarves). What do you think?

I will post a list of units needed to be added as soon as I can. I don't have much time at the moment (big exam :( )
 
Now that you mention it Scytale, we could make a Burning Legion civ(I forgot about the Chaos Orcs :mischief: ). I like the idea of Gnoll mercenaries but how would we implement that?

As for the Naga, I've been thinking about that and haven't really come up with any good ideas yet.

Actually, I just checked Blizzard's legal page (at www.blizzard.com) and I believe this is allowable under their "Fan Art" clause, which means that as long as the graphics are made by you, and it is not distributed commercially, then it should be okay. It might not hurt to ask them, though.

I'm also in favor of this mod, since some creatures, like the fish men (can't remember what they were called in Warcraft III) would also make good Sahagin flavor units for the Final Fantasy mod, among other things.

P.S. I believe the creatures you are referring to are the Murlocs.
 
Baaad idea. Baaaaaaaaaaaaad idea. Blizzard is Evil. They squashed mods based on thier games before. Hell, they even squashed a Starcraft mod for Warcraft III.
 
What's the bad idea, making the mod or asking Blizzard?

Alright, since so far Scytale has provided the most help I'll ask him. Do you think it's worth continuing with this project?

EDIT: Hikaro, I'd like to hear your thoughts as well.
 
I say it's worth a try. I'd ask Blizzard first (they can't do anything to you for just asking), and explain that you won't be using any of their graphics, but rather that it will be 100% fan-created content. If they get all whiny about it, just change the name of the mod and the civilizations slightly (just enough to avoid legal issues, but not so much that people don't know what you're talking about), then they couldn't touch you, since what you'd be doing would then be a parody, which is perfectly legal to do even without permission.
