New Member and a New Mod

the Undead rule as well, but I'm more familiar with Warcraft I and II, so I'll stick to the orcs :)
so Thrall's orcs are going to be the Grunts, Raiders, Spearmen, Necrolytes, Warlocks etc ? I'm getting a bit confused on what you call "evil orcs"... all orcs are evil :D

In Warcraft III The Orcish Horde is revealed to not really be as evil as previously thought. They discover that they had been corrupted by demons(Burning Legion), and had a noble shamanistic culture once. Thrall was able to do away with the last of the demonic corruption after the Second War and revive their shamanistic culture. So basically, the Orcs in Warcraft I & II are the ones corrupted by demons and the ones in Warcraft III are actually good guys.

EDIT: varwnos, I pretty much figured out what city graphics I'm using so all you need to do is finish this one and I'm set(unless you want to do an evil set on your own). I think this one works just fine for the Undead because they usually built their bases on top of Human cities they had conquered, and that's just what this looks like.

well, good guys, good guys... well they still trampled down the whole species of the Dranei and took over their world (cf. manuals of Warcraft I and II) ;)

and that happened before Gul'Dan got in contact with Kil'Jaeden... I'd rather say then that the Orcs of Warcraft III and Warcraft I (minus the Necrolytes) represent the "traditional orcs"... that would let them with Grunts, Spearmen, Raiders, Warlocks from Warcraft I + other orcish units from Warcraft III (I'll check their rooster right away, not sure anymore what they have - I sticked to the Undead in Warcraft III...)
They should get the Dragons as well since they were enslaved by the sons of Blackhand, who were rather against Gul'Dan/Doomhammer.

While the Burning Legion would then get the Ogres/Ogremages (since Cho'Gall was the right hand of Gul'Dan), Chaos Orcs, Demons, Necrolytes, Death Knights, Juggernauts (since they're ogre boats)

Still not sure where to put the Trolls axethrowers...

what do you think ?
ok I'm going to check the orcish Warcraft III units and I come back. :)

@varwnos : but if Erich Zann provides the music it will turn into a Ctulhu mod with Yuggoth Orcs instead of Chaos ones :D

EDIT : back! That would add Blademasters, Kodo Beasts (which should be turn into some heavy transport of war beast I'd say), Shamans, Far Seers, Wyvern Riders, and if we count the Trolls with them, Axethrowers, Troll Destroyers and Witch Doctors... plus the summonable beasts.

You're right Erich, the Orcs still aren't totally good(they still retained their war-like ways and will probably always be in conflict with Humans), but I'm just trying to reflect both sides of the Horde. So Thrall is going to get the shamanistic Orcs(weaker than Chaos Orcs but still pretty fierce and use more nature oriented magic) and the Legion will get the Chaos Orcs(strengthend through demonic power and uses dark destructive magic). They're basically going to be the same units just the Chaos Orcs will be a little stronger than Thrall's Horde.

I'd rather not give exactly the same unit, for instance the Ogres took clearly the side of the Demons (with the Twilight's Hammer clan for instance, and Gul'Dan teaching them magic), whereas the Trolls are closer to the traditional orcs I think... what do you think of the two lists I proposed ?

of course Grunts and Catapults would be available to both civs... but I think it would a bit variety to have, for instance, on Thrall's side the Raiders (fast, powerful) and on the Burning Legion's side the Ogres (slower, powerful as well, better armour)
the Burning Legion would get more "panzer" units - the demons, the ogres etc... whereas Thrall would get a bit faster and/or ranged combat units - spearmen, raiders, trolls etc...

and of course the magic used would clearly not be the same, with Shaman and Witch-Doctors (nature magic, healing, beast summoning and some elemental damage and so...) on one side and Necrolytes, Warlocks and Death Knights (necromancy, really evil beasts summoning, death clouds, fierce wicked stuff :D )

dunno, just an idea to make both civs really different :)

I was planning on giving the Ogre to the Legion(sorry for not clarifying more) and most of what you wrote are good ideas. What I was planning to do with the shared units is make different versions(for example: I will make two separate units: the Grunt and the Chaos Grunt, both would use the same graphics but have different stats).

yup, giving different stats to the shared units seem like a good idea to me too - Chaos Orcs should be pretty mean opponents to beat !!
I'll start to work on some rough Orc tech tree tonight, to Yuggoth with my sleep :crazyeye:

Thanks Erich, I was starting to worry that I might have to make the tech tree myself(trust me that's not what we want  ). Anyway, I was going to sketch out the tech tree for the different races tonight, so go ahead and do yours and we'll compare notes and work out the best possible tech tree.

I just finished a list of resources that are going in the mod and I'll be posting them in the first post of this thread, so if anyone wants to make any of the graphics or tell me where they can be found[, check out the list and either post or PM me.

EDIT: Also, what about governments? I have three already: Monarchy, Magocracy, and Tribal Warchief, but I need more. I would like two governments per race(one to start with and one to upgrade to.

EDIT(again): Just thought of another one, Shamanism.

If Blizzard is really so cheap as some of you make it appear then to the nether regions of Hades with them - and just call the mod "Craft of War" :D
Blizzard is cheap and greedy. But this is the first time I've seen this mod attempted based purely on fan art. I'd like to see how it turns out and if this is successful, then I may begin work on a Diablo mod using only fan art. Good luck guys, and you can be sure Blizzard is watching already. They have eyes everywhere. :scan:

Well, consider this the first act of defiance by the anti-Blizzard resistance :salute: . Freedom to the modders of the world!

Well, I just saw this mod, and well, it's about damn time someone stood up to the corporate universe! I salute you, Commodore, for sticking it to the man! :salute: If I had Warcraft, I would've started this mod ages ago. Thank you for seeing the light!

Well, odin you are more than welcome to help, so if you wish to offer your services just post what you can do and we'll put you to work :) .

I guess you could work on the techs but we really don't have a tech tree yet. I'll try to work out a rough sketch of the tech tree and get it to you as soon as I can.

I probably won't as architecture never really changed throughout the different games. I don't know why, but I really like the one on the right as the Undead city style. For some reason when I see it I think Draktharon Keep(just in case you're wondering, it's an Undead stronghold in Northrend).

EDIT: Btw, I would really appreciate it if you guys would request either a Troll Batrider, Nerubian Crypt Fiend, Nerubian Crypt Lord, or Murloc for the mod in aaglo's lottery. Ultimately it's up to you what you want to request, but it would be great if you requested a unit for the mod.

@odintheking: I seem to be having a case of writer's block with the tech tree(they really aren't my strong point) so I was thinking I will just post the units, buildings, and wonders I came up with and I'll leave the techs up to you. How's that sound?

EDIT: One more thing, I thought you should also know that I plan on having separate tech trees for each race(Human, High Elf, Night Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Burning Legion, Undead).

I just made a map with no terrain features because I can't do terrain very well. Here's the map so that someone can do the terrain for me. If some one could do this please it would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Map removed as someone is now working on it.

sorry I couldn't work on the stuff these days, had some trouble to sort out :(
the seperate tech tree idea is a good one but how will you work that out in the game itself ? I fear you'll run out of space on the tech tree...

ok, I'm going back to work for these damn tech trees :)

The biggest problem I'm having with the tech tree is thinking up techs to put in it, that's what I want odin to work on. I'm sure we can get all the techs to fit if we assign them to different flavors. I believe by doing this we could put two techs from different flavors in the same place on the tree and they would only be visible to the flavor that has it. I don't know if I explained that clearly but that should solve the space problem(plus there will be some techs that will be shared by everyone).
