hav to buy a new pc, so:

combination1: mainboard 1000fsb (the two mainboards have the same specs except for fsb), athlon 3500+, 768 mb ddr

comb2: 2000fsb, athlon 3500+, 512mb ddr

comb3: (cheapest) 2000fsb, athlon 3000+, 512mb ddr

comb4: 2000 fsb, athlon 3000, 1024 mb ddr

comb5 (most expensive): 1000 fsb, athlon 3500+, 1024mb ddr

whats the best specs for gaming using a radeon 9800SE AGP 256mb graphcs card?

Well... without knowing a bit more about the systems you are talking about it is hard to say which would be better. Truthfully, the 9800SE is a very crippled card anyway so any of those systems will support it just fine. You would do better to state a budget give specific parts if you want a good recommendation.

the main question is does it make sense to buy the athlon 3500 which is almost double priced compared to the 3000....
is it so much faster that the price is justified?

If you give me a budget range I will spec you out a good machine. If you are focusing on a gaming machine - my suggestion would be you save on the mobo/cpu and splurge on the vid card and as much RAM as you can get. Also - many will argue this - but I recommend a dual core CPU even if the clock speeds are a little slower. While there are few apps/games that take advantage at this point - I promise you - a year from now single core users will be drooling over the performance dual core users will be getting.

No - it is not worth it. The performance difference is not more than 10%.

thanks...

my is budget 500 euros or lower, wont focus on hard disc 80-100 GB, dont need more, mainly for gaming purposes, dvd burner, got network-card and graphics card...

Do you mean that you already have a video card?

I don't know costs to well in Euro for components. But 500 euro = $600 in US. If you already have video card you should be able to get some good components for that. I might suggest a DFI LANParty NF4 Ultra-D. Retail here is about $130. Then get some dual channel RAM - OCZ is good and you should be able to get a performace 1Gb kit for around $130. That would leave you with $340 or so for a CPU. That should be enough for an Athlon 64 X2 3800+.

All the Socket 939 athlons are 2000fsb, so take that out of your equation, its 1000mhz x2 so some spec it differently.

it doesn't matter... 9800 SE cards are rip-off. My firend you got really bad deal. 256MB of VRAM doesn't mean anything when core is intentinally slowed down to cut price. you'll run Civ4 just fine though, but not newest FPS games.

I have the Athlon 3000+ and it performs great for the money.

I have to agree with that....price and performance makes it a pretty good deal.
