The idea is nice, but why is the picture so grainy?

Not sure, probably because it has a lot of different textures and therefore minimizes them to get to 256 colors, and also the grass texture i am using looks like that.
Personally i like it though

Well they did not look as good, at least in my view. But more will appear anyway.

If you are using photoshop I can give you some tips to minimize that.

I use the Gimp, but that grass issue was about a tech i have removed, so no worries
