I think there ought to be a spell that either raises or lowers coast/sea/ocean levels.

Whatchall think?

PS

I think it's been discussed all over the place already :)

The major issue would be getting the AI to use it sensibly - unlikely to happen any time soon I'm afraid.

Coast also has greater food production than Oceans.

My guess is that he was suggesting a spell that "raises" or "lowers" land, which would mean: Ocean<->Coast<->Plains<->Hills<->Mountains
Civ IV doesn't have any pre-programmed notion of land height, but I don't see why this would be difficult to implement. Perhaps it would be better balanced to implement terraforming as a mix of spells: Water spells to create water tiles, Earth spells to create mountainous terrain, etc.

Do you mean land into oceans, or just coast into oceans? Because there isn't much difference between coast and ocean, other than what ships can travel there.

Coast to oceans, really. What ships can travel there is exactly what I'm thinking. I'd love to be able to cut off an avenue of attack/colonization, or open one up.

Do yall have any idea how hard it is to catch up to what's been previously discussed about this mod?

PS

Perhaps the existing earthquake/crush spells could be modified to work on coastal sea tiles (damaging ships/marine creatures), and have a small chance of turning that tile into a desert, pushing off any surviving marine units.

This would make earthquake/crush more of a counterpart to tsunami, and negate the need for a new spell (requiring the caster to spend an additional promo).

Those who are patient enough to use tsunami to create canals may also wish to then use this earth spell to create land bridges.

how about a spell that creates marshland instead?
or two, with one raising water to earthyness and one bringing water to earth
(mangroves?)
