So, has anyone found out yet if specializing cities is still the way to go? I can't seem to see a difference yet, though I have not played a lot.

Also, do great people do anything anymore other than make golden ages. I see the general makes a citidel, tho it doesnt seem that useful.

One final question, who does the voice overs for the techs?

Answering last to first.

British actor Morgan Shepard. I like him better then Nimoy to be honest. He seems more interested in the work. Nimoy sounds like that bit where Krusty the Clown goes into the recording studio and rattles off the script for the talking Krusty doll before the tech has a chance to set up.

The GP buildings can be contextually useful. The academy is more than worth it if set up early. Citadels are good for defending at ithmuses (Greg used it well in the pre-release live playthrough). Great generals can also be used very well to support armies on the move. But I do use them for golden ages as well.

I use specialized cities much less then in Civ IV.

1) Frankly, I haven't played enough to tell yet.
2) Scientists grant one free technology (always - a boost over Civ4) and build +tech improvements
Artists "culture bomb" to flip/gain a bunch of hexes and build +culture improvements
Engineers hurry production and build +production improvements
Generals give a 25% combat boost to nearby units (more if you're China) and build Citadels

3) W. Morgan Shepperd, who's considerably more British than Nimoy.

in civ 4 you had a lot more national wonders that granted massive bonus' to a certain speciality. National Epic in a great person farm is amazing. Oxford University in a science city, heroic epic in a military.

In this you get like... ironworks for +20%. Whoopdedoo. The only real specialization comes from the much longer building prereq chains. Library, university, public school, research facility.
