New tactic / exploit?

charliehoke,

here's the link to the original straight scoop as posted by Mike B. of Firaxis back on July 3rd.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=359144#post359144

This thread was a great sequence where Mike B confirmed that any unit that wins two or more combat events in the same turn is guaranteed a promotion (if still not elite)

and then confirmed the basics of knowing what to do when popping goody huts.

Great stuff straight from the source. ;)

Yes that is true. I don't think it is an exploit, just having a better understanding of the game.

We all played this game for months not knowing that fact, and felt that it was a little unbalancing, especially in a GOTM, where you are trying to compare people's games that are played on the exact same map. Now that everyone knows this, everyone has the same chance, so it's a more level playing field.

Before we knew this, some people would get a free settler (or two) and other players would start thinking they must have cheated (reloaded several times) or they were just extremely lucky. Now we know that this may have just been dependant on their build style of when they started producing that first settler, for example. So unless they knew this and didn't tell anyone :hammer: , I guess it was more 'blind' luck.

There are some other aspects of this game that players did not know until someone ran a bunch of tests and/or Firaxis finally fessed up and showed/explained the rules. The fact that one particular elite unit can only generate a leader once is one example, and that is why in the latest patch there is a '*' next to it, so we know not to use that unit to try and get another leader.
