New Tax Idea

Taxes should be dependant on the # of people in a civ, not commerce produced by a citizen. Also, to go with that, there should be a tax slider that would effect the happiness of your citizens.
 
The Commerce produced in tiles represents the goods that your citizens harvest that are not used for production (these are sold and you collect the sales tax). The "Luxury Slider" probably includes increased luxury distribution, nationwide entertainment, and tax rebates.
 
Mewtarthio, I meant a % tax that influenced happiness. Though I guess you would have to get rid of the luxury slider. Maybe.

so basicly you want to reverse the luxury slider and call it the tax slider?
 
no, i meant like an overall tax % that would be like real taxes. The % on the slider would help determine the overall happiness and how much money that you got. Firaxis could also put variables into that slider to make it do good in some years and bad in others to make economic booms and depressions. Kind of like galactic civilizations.

isn't that what the luxury slider currently does?
 
I think thescaryworker wants to be able to set a tax rate for the population. Not sure how something like that could be implemented since the citizens do not have a real income to be taxed. (fortget this post if I am totaly offbase)

The Luxary slider should not be confused with taxes since they are not really in the game. The slider is just a model of how you civ divulges its income. x% goes to science research, y% to entertainment, and the rest gets tossed into the treasury.
 
i know that, but he's proposing that tax rate also affects happiness
 
what sealman is sayin is what im sayin, but i guess you could still have the luxury slider to make some interesting strategies

what the luxury slider does: affects how much money goes to your treasury and how much goes to making people happy



please tell me the difference between your plans, as there clearly is something i'm missing
 
like in real life, any country doesn't get money just based on commerce. Most of it comes from the citizens paying property taxes. If they had different classes of citizens or just an average wealth rating, your %tax would decide how happy the populace is and how much money you got per person.
Ex1.
POP x AVGINCOME/person/year = POPTOTALINCOME/year
POPTOTALINCOME/year x TAX% = GOVT INCOME

P x AINC/P/Y = POTTLINC/Y
POTTINC/Y x T% = GVTINC
Ex2.
Lets say that Bob is the Fench and has one million people in his country. His average income/citizen/year is 50,000 EUROS. His tax percent is 8% he gets a total of 4 billion euros.

50,000 x 1,000,000 = 50 billion euros = poptotinc/year
50 billion euros x 8% = 4 billion euros = govt income from taxes
Ex3
over time your citizens would get used to the taxes, but the bigger the difference, the slower they get used to the taxes. For example, if Bob suddenly made the tax to 10%, his populace would be angry for quite a while. However, if he raised it to 8.05%, the populace would not react to the change for very long.
