1774

So they woke a sleeping giant.

The Chinese, I mean. Unabashed, unprovoked, and really pretty much unnecessary attacks on Fanatica concerns did not net the Chinese a great deal.

Other than a war they were ill equipped to defend against.

The strength of United Fanatica was growing, and the world was beginning to realize that it was not just within the realms of commerce and technology. No, they also were a military power that would soon demonstrate the true art of war.

The Inner Circle was joined by a new governor, Elibb. From the dust of the first English cities to feel the wrath of Fanatica wronged, he came to the Inner Sanctum with skill not only in the realms of diplomacy, tactics, and city planning. He was also skilled at various projectile sports and an accomplished keg-drainer.

He would fit in quite well.

1774:

In this year, the ongoing war with the Chinese takes center stage. Our spies and military are prepared to finish off the remnants of the Chinese military – such as it is. A veteran spy in the field pays off Chinese “freedom fighters” outside of Beijing. They realized it was Fanatica that would bring them true freedom (along with cash). The cost was a relatively steep 150 gold, but it is deemed a worthy buy.

Our spy then approaches the city of Shanghai – the metal structure of the Eiffel Tower can be seen for miles. Some bargaining with the leaders of the city leads to a deal. They will leave the city and allow it to become Fanatica land for a mere 438 gold. The deal is struck and our spy returns to Beijing safely. While at Shanghai, our spy is very impressed with the RAIL lines that connect Shanghai to Canton. Very impressed indeed.

The purchase is not without a downside as more “freedom fighters” join the field. An audience is requested, denied, and further “peacekeeping” efforts are supported by the Senate.

The upside is that United Fanatica inherits a size 7 city with barracks, a granary, marketplace, city walls, aqueduct, and of course the Eiffel Tower. A single musket brigade is inside, but that will be enough for the likes of the rabble outside of Shanghai.

Our destroyer outside of Tsingtao heads west to see about Mongol territories. It first makes sure that no other cities exist on the Chinese mainland, and none do. It is forced to end halt right next to a Mongol frigate.

In Nanking, a rifle brigade is given special spy training - given the safe status of our spy and the rails that were seen into Canton. They are disbanded and they will be able to spy very soon.

Our cavalry in Beijing attacks a stack of two partisans and is successful – but comes very close to dying. It seems they were NOT veteran and did not receive the upgrade either. They are still alive, though. A partisan group covers the retreat of three vet cavalry to Nanking and then enters the city. A second group joins them. The end is very near.

Word reaches the capital:

The Mongol frigate decides to attack our destroyer. Wooden planks go flying in every direction as the destroyer makes toothpicks out of the ancient ship. It also received veteran status.

The people of Fanatica upgrade the throne in the throne room. A nice reddish one.

Rome becomes a republic.

Lots of tech trading between our rivals:

Zulus get physics from Rome
Romans get conscription from Chinese
Chinese get electricity from Rome
English get conscription from Rome
Mongols get conscription from Rome
Zulus get sanitation from Mongols
Germans get conscription from the Chinese
Chinese get genetic engineering from Germans

The Zulus contact us. The Inner Circle sends Leowind to speak with them as he has had favorable dealings with them in the past. They would have noticed that President Kev was at one time part of the AZC and likely would protest.

The gist of the conversation is that the Zulus need help as they are at war with the English. They are willing to pay us a whopping 500 gold to declare war on the English. What the heck, we’ll be at war with them at some point soon anyway. We have to make an alliance with the Zulus, but hey, they can sometimes break if people are not careful.

1776:

Will this be the year the war ends with the Chinese?

For 352 gold the city of Tsingtao agrees to join United Fanatica. We receive 120 gold, genetic engineering (which upgrades all of our captured units), 2 partisans, 1 rifle, and 1 transport.

Finally, our last spy approaches the gates of Canton. The leaders of the city file out, knowing that they are beaten. The people, however, are ecstatic to be out from under Chinese rule – they had just now given them electricity for crying out loud. They knew that the leaders of Fanatica would build for them the city they always wanted, and that they would be well fed, clothed, and educated. There was cheering in the streets, and all freedom fighters disbanded throughout the mainland.

Hard to believe it only took 315 gold. We received 64 in return, a granary, marketplace and a harbor. Both spies successfully returned from their missions.

Play the sad music. The Chinese are no more.

In other news, our destroyer discovers that Tabriz is size 8 and does not have city walls. It also spots the size 7 city of Xinjian 2 squares away. Looks like the Chinese tried to set up a city here and the Mongols wanted nothing to do with it. Can hardly blame them.

Two sets of spies and transports are now exploring and mapping dark waters.

Near the Romans, our cavalry in Dukeshire kills 2 cannon groups stacked upon each other and returns to the city. Brundisium is in disorder, and the Dukeshire spy investigates. The city would revolt for 495 gold, but only has a single cannon inside the city. It would be taken back very quickly in all likelihood, so our spy returns to Dukeshire and awaits a better time.

On this same island, the city of Renmark is built. A rifle brigade out of Viroconium defends the city while it trains its own.

Word reaches the capital:

More trading:
English get chemistry from Rome
Mongols discover Fundy
Mongols get electricity from Rome
Rome gets Fundy from Mongols.

A new path is built to the throne. We rejoice that we now have over 10,000,000 citizens in Fanatica.

1778:

Our cavalry are healed and sent to Beijing for support. They will leave soon to pay a visit to the Mongols.

Not too much else domestically.

Word reaches the capital:

The Mongol government is overthrown. Ha! No more democracy for you.

We hear the barbarian take the Roman city of Lugdunum. However, the Romans retake the city right away. Still like to find that city – bet it’ll be cheap to buy after that.

1780:

Duke’s guys at NU discover refining and also invent the pocket protector. We’re not sure which is the most amazing discovery. They begin to work with some tools that they think they can make into machines.

Brighton builds city walls and starts a temple.
Shanghai builds a temple and starts a factory
Beijing trains engineers and starts a factory
Unknown City builds and aqueduct and starts a factory

Our spy and transport combo finds German lands. The city of Hamburg is found and the spy takes a peek inside. Egads! This city is protected by one mere musket. Our ship heads toward Canton. With a few vet cavs and a few spies, we can do some damage to the Germans.

Our Four Horsemen of the Fanatics boards a transport with 2 spies and head toward Mongol lands. New cavs will be trained for the German theater.

Word reaches the capital:

The Mongols have gone Fundy.

Not much information, and the Inner Circle break with tradition and partake in many mixed drinks. Duke, being the science leader, was mixing the drinks – and that proved a dangerous thing altogether. It would seem that the MOI, duke, mooned the entire city of Olympia from the city wall ramparts.

Part II

1782:

An interesting thing we find in the Mongol cities. There is swamp about, and very few places to land. Further, a Roman freight has taken up one of the cleared road spaces in front of Xinjian.

A peek inside Tabriz shows a rifle, two muskets, a dragoon and a transport inside. No city walls, however. Though there are 5 units to our four, Kev makes an executive decision. Now in fundy, the Mongols are bribable. The city will cost 810 gold to bribe, and while we have over 1,700, it is still a steep price. Yet, we need to enter the Mongol home continent with strength, and the units inside Tabriz will help us do that.

The decision is made. We will take on the Mongols.

OPERATION OVERHORDE is underway.

We bribe Tabriz and our spy escapes to the waiting arms of St. Leowind. We receive 159 gold, fundamentalism (which upgrades our units), a barracks, a granary, a harbor, 3 rifles, 1 cavalry and a new transport. Only 1 partisan appears, and he is too far to make contact with us. Our ship docks with the Four Horsemen.

Our new cavalry goes forth and destroys the Roman freight blocking the way to Xinjian. Our spy then looks in on the city. It only has a musket and a transport inside. Nice.

The first horsemen crushes the musket after our Senate approves of the peacekeeping that we are doing. Nice that we have incriminating photos of them. We then send the non-vet cavalry to take out the transport, and it is successful and earns its veteran status. Then a little trick. Units are placed in every land tile near Xinjian, and when we take the city ZERO partisans appear.

We get 92 gold and not much else. The city is in a very silly place.

We then call on the Mongols and agree to peace (Not a cease fire – man that UN is great). We need to regroup. One rifle is sent to Xinjian for defense.

During this time, our destroyer fought a pitched battle with a stack of two Mongol ironclads. Our destroyer was victorious, but badly damaged and was sent to St. Leowind for repairs.

Word reaches the capital:

The English get corporation and electricity from the Mongols

1784:

Spice Haven builds a wine freight. Many Zulu cities demand this so perhaps we can check out the lands of our new allies.

OPERATION OVERHORDE continues in secret. Our spy peeks at Bokhara. It is size 8 and defended by 1 rifle, 1 dragoon, and 2 muskets. No city walls. They have also have enough shields to finish a transport. It would cost 848 to bribe, which is way too much now. We bide our time.

The spy is picked up in St. Leowind and will check out some of the other Mongol cities.

Word reaches the capital:

Another dragoon attack at Dukeshire is repelled. The library that was being built there is changed to city walls.

1786:

Pellaken bay builds a harbor and starts a market
Dellville builds an aqueduct and starts a market
Ormuz trains engineers and starts a temple
Mpondo builds a market and starts freight
Viroconium trains engineers and starts freight
Athenae builds a gems freight and starts another
Olympia builds a factory and starts a harbor (instead of a wonder – won’t be one available for a while)

Machine tools are discovered. The brilliant minds at Newton’s are given awards and money but still can’t get dates. Miniaturization is next.

A peek at Kashgar. Size 8 with no city walls or coastal fortress. Defending are a rifle, a fanatic (Hey!), and a musket. It has enough shields to complete a destroyer.

Coventry and York are spotted. We make peace with the English to help us explore their lands.

With much fanfare, the MOI duke o’ york hammers in the golden spike that links all of the home island city by rail. A keg car is put aside for the Inner Circle and they take several laps and inebriate themselves.

Our Five Horsemen pile into a fort two clicks from Bokhara.

Word reaches the capital:

A transport is spotted leaving Bokhara. The fools, we hope they took some defenders with them.

The Germans discover explosives and nearly blow up Munich.

1788:

Tsingtao builds a temple and starts engineers
Tabriz builds a temple and starts engineers
Nanking builds a temple and starts cavalry
Canton builds a temple and starts an aqueduct

There is pollution near Olympia. Yuck.

A factory is rushed in Bejing. We’ll need troops out of here soon.

Another check of Bokhara: The transport left with the dragoon in tow. It only has a rifle and two muskets left with no city walls.

A call to the Mongols leads to this conversation:

Kev: Hi
Genghis: Hmpf. Give us Tactics.
Kev: Sigh. No. Idiot.
Genghis: Yes.
Kev: No. Dork.
Genghis: Grrr. That UN thing blah blah blah spare you.
Kev: Right. Remove your ugly troops from our territory.
Genghis: Huh? This is war talk. We smash you.
Ren: Thanks. Time to fight.

OPERATION OVERHORDE is back on.

Three vet cavalry take out the defenders. The fourth takes the city. It gives us 94 gold but NO improvements. Partisans emerge.

Genghis: Make peace now.
Ren: I think you’ve learned your lesson and are now my whipping boy.
Genghis: Good peace. We play nice.

Peace for a short time.

Word reaches the capital:

Rome has discovered electronics and starts the Hoover Dam

A German frigate attacks Dellville. Oh yeah, the Germans. The frigate sinks.

1790:

Cornmaster builds a library and starts a bank
Beijing builds a factory and starts a barracks

Roaming transports spot the city of Isandhlwana in Zululand and Nottingham in the English area.

Word reaches the capital:

English get democracy from Rome
Zulus get leadership from Rome
Zulus get chemistry from Mongols

1792:

Some tweaking in Mongol territory. Alpine troops are rushed in Bokhara. Spies see that Kashgar is still a good target. Basra is seen, but pretty far north of Bokhara.

Word reaches the capital:

Nothing really. The Circle is all “kegged” out. They try to go for natural “highs” and try bungee jumping. They decide that drinking into oblivion is much safer.

1794:

Thunder Falls builds a temple and starts a market
Brighton builds a temple and starts engineers
Beijing builds a barracks (D’OH! I forgot we’re nearing mobile warfare and the barracks will be sold. Sorry guys) and starts a sewer system.
Shanghai rushes is second vet cav while Nanking rushes one as well. Soon, we’ll have a nice force to take into German lands.
Olympia builds a harbor and starts a bank.
Miniaturization is discovered! With the pocket protectors, Duke’s smart guys now have to wear glasses as they were squinting so much. They do look cool with the pocket protectors though. They start to study combustion.

We make peace with the Romans and hope they stop attacking.

Our traveling spy peeks at the Mongol capital of Karakorum. It is defended by 3 dragoons, 1 fanatic and 1 transport. It has city walls but no coastal fortress. Hmmmm.

We discover the Zulu city of Ulundi and since it demands wine, we deliver the freight from Spice Haven. It nets us 275 gold!

We find the English capital of London.

OPERATION OVERHORDE continues once more. We decide to break our treaty and get approval from the Senate (did I mention that I love the UN?). We send a vet cavalry to take out the first defender, and the second attack is from the non-vet. After killing the fanatic, it is given vet status. The third attack is also successful, and the city is now ours. We get 107 gold but not much else. The city is beaten down to size 4, but it’s ours now.

Peace is once again made with the Mongols. This is kinda fun.

Word reaches the capital:

The Mongols are being true to their word and the partisans are dispersing.

With over 2,200 gold, rush building ensues.

1796:

Cambridge builds a temple and starts a coastal fortress
Marl Downs builds a market and starts an offshore platform
Ormuz builds a temple and starts a harbor
Dover builds a harbor and starts an aqueduct
Joespaniel builds a factory and starts an aqueduct
Tabriz trains engineers and starts a market
Potopolia builds a bank and starts freight
THDP builds a coastal fortress and starts a bank

We hold for now. Much to discuss.

From the UN:

Rome:
Republic with 1,835 gold. 52 techs and researching tactics. They have 13 cities (3 of which are building Hoover)

Zulus:
Our allies for now. They are a republic with 741 gold. They have a sad 39 techs and are researching communism. They have 7 cities.

Germans:
Republic with 449 gold. They have 49 techs and are researching refining. They have 6 cities.

English:
Republic with 1,985 gold. They have 48 techs and are researching economics (still). They have 17 cities.

Mongols:
Fundy with 2,346 gold. They have 51 techs and are researching refining. They now only have 11 cities.

Chinese:
No longer exist.

United Fanatica:
Democracy with 1,650 gold. We have 62 techs and are researching combustion. We have 37 cities now.

Hehe, things are looking really good for the glorious empire of United Fanatica. And I am very happy to have been proven utterly wrong about the UN. :D

Hehe, I'll never get tired of those summaries :goodjob:

Erm, which city does this refer to??

Now, I'm off to "talk" to my whipping boy :mwaha:

Sorry, Ren. I believe that city was Kashgar.

The one problem about attacking cities without city walls is that with each defender lost the population shrinks by one. So with 3 defenders and the pop drop from taking the city itself, this size 8 city was shrunk to size 4. No matter, though.

We'll need your input about the rest of Operation Overhorde - should we decide to continue. I'll start a thread about it.

Mr. Spice: Yes, the UN was even better than I remembered. We've been given broad leeway in terms of breaking treaties and "further peacekeeping actions". Also, each time we make contact we are given peace instead of the hideous cease-fire. Ah, it's been nice.

Ohhh I would love to kill off Xinjian..:mwaha:..Is there any chance of someone agreeing with me? I am totally against any overlap at all, and I have learnt to tollerate it here (and only here) but those two cities will hinder each other if something is not done, come to think of it, Tabriz looks like a better one to kill off and move one square W and one SW...Once again, does anyone agree with me here? It's easier for you to download the save than for someone to post pics too you know....

Edit 1: I will go post something about this in my Military Department Thread now...

Edit 2: Hey Kev just changed his avatar :)
