It's called Exult. It is supposed to run on modern machines. Before this, since Ultima 7 did not run on windows (it took over memory and drive management) it was a pain to get it to work. Now there are free [/v] win32, linux, bsd unix, mac versions.

This is really one of the classic RPGs. Does anybody remember?

Yes, I just discovered that too. I have the "Ultima Collection" on CD. I had to install a WIN9X compatability package just to get ultima 7 to install, but it did. The Ultima Collection is still available and cheap. For example

They have a linux version -- How do you install the original U7 on Linux? Well maybe the Linux version doesn't require the original U7?

Here is what you do for ultima7. Install the Ultima Collection somewhere. You will get a \UC\ULTIMA7 directory. Then Extract the EXULT install stuff to that same directory, \UC\ULTIMA7. Then run EXULT. (The instructions that come with it were a little confusing.) It worked on my WIN2000 machine except it ran in a small window.

Do you know how to force an app to use a larger window in win2000? I tried the "Run maximized " option in the shortcut and that didn't work.

EDIT: OK, the video works now. The Escape key goes to a video menu and other useful options. Now I can run Ultima 7 in 800X600 which looks a hell of a lot better than the original 320X200!
