Forgive me if this is already mentioned or should be somewhere else.

Anyway, in Civ4 I would like the ability to transport, transports such as helicopters, and also land transports such as trucks. Also I would like to see a change allowing the game to recognize land transports. Also normal submarines should be able to carry cruise missiles by default. Speaking about which what about allowing some transports, the ability to be truely amphibious and launch from the edge of the contienential shelf of land so to speak? This would allow transports such as army ducks to be truely useful to the player. I think even in ancient eras this would open up opportunities such as the opportunity to do a scenario based on the ancient story of Troy properly. Any opinions on these suggestions?

It is already possible to create a land transport (such as trucks); the problem is that the AI will not use them! I would like to see post-industrial age ships (Aegis Cruisers, Modern Destroyers, Nuclear Aircraft Carriers) be able to carry cruise missles. Some of the current (2004) US surface fleet ships use cruise missles almost to exclusion.

Also, it might be useful to have long range bombers (e.g. B-52's) that can transport nukes. In Civ3 terms, this would be equivalent to having tactical nukes load onto a LRB and be dropped much further away.

Not sure about army ducks, since these units were actually carried by other ships and launched onto beaches (similar to the way marines operate in Civ3 now).

I was meaning that the army ducks would be transports able to be launched further out at the edge of the shelf and then go in like a boat. This would make the idea of landing craft so much more feasible for modern eras. I was also meaning that they should code for the AI to use land transports, as well as allowing certain units the ability to transport transports. This would make the industrial and modern eras more realistic.

I think there are possibilities.

First of all, it could really help ancient era attackers. If you can put them in a movement 3 transport, transport them to the nearest city, then your attackers get out and attack, it would be an effective offensive tool.

After rail comes, it would lose its effectiveness, but if there was a good array of infantry units, that were significantly cheaper than tanks and modern armor, then you could load them in, and get similar movement. Even with TOW, it may come in handy (I forget how much they cost, though).

Exactly and it could be incorporated into the Mechanized Infantry in modern times. Speaking about which I would like to see the regular infantry and the paratrooper merge due to the fact that in the modern age every army is paratroopers. Also I would like to see the unit have the power to launch amphibious assaults. In short bringing the main infantry, marine and paratrooper together in the one unit to demonstrate today's combined forces operations. Also I would like to see the addition of a surprise value for attacks from sea, land and air. I would also love to see the paratroopers go into action while still paradropping. Ie. drop them on a city and they attempt to catch it for you. It would be good to then introduce a better version in some ways called Special Forces Infantry, maybe with a lower defence but a higher attack to demonstrate the Special Forces unique abilities throughout the world. Sound good to you?
