New Unit: European Swordsman

Great unit! You'd never know it was your first try at a human.

I think I'll move the wolf-head swordsman down to be a european replacement for the spearman, then this to be the swordsman. He can upgrade to the flail infantry for the middle ages.

Is there nothing this genius cannot make?

I was looking for a unit like this!

Great work, utah!!!

Utah, You said you used poser. I've been experimenting with using poser and flicster in creating units. Using poser is not a problem for me. But in the transfer to flic animation it looks bad and choppy. do you or anyone else have any suggestions in how to transfer your character from poser to flic. I've been making pictures of each frame and cutting and pasting onto the pcx. But it seems when i make it small it looks terrible even though it looks beautiful on and the pics. Thanks

Great unit, utah! I just have some observations:

The attack flc could do with being a little 'smoother'

The fortify flc is a little slow

In the run flc, the shield arm seems to jerk back sharply in the last few frames

The fidget flc looks like he's scratching his balls! :p

Well, brother be sweatin' on the battlefield! ;) I actually thought about doing that for the fidget, but I went with the more conservative "strectching/straightening of the arms."

Hey would you mind if I made this into an munit? If you don't, do you have any suggestions for the formations? Thanks!

Just like my Pictish Warrior, I'm reviving a dead thread. I've redone the animations for this unit now too. The most important change is reduction in this unit's size. He was way too big before. The shadow is also fixed. Warning: I did not make another fidget animation. So, I've included, in thise .zip file, a new .ini file as well.

Animation Update.

what civ is the regular swordsman good for, if any?

Joe,

First of all, I know you're new here, but forum necromancy (the resurrecting of ancient threads) is generally frowned upon. The only exception is if you've found some problems with the unit, or have something major (say an altered version of the unit) to add.

Secondly, to answer your question: It's entirely up to you what you use these (or Firaxis' original units) for. I'm personaly thinking of using this guy as a "knight" in my Final Fantasy mod. I'm already using UJ7's Euro Spearman as a "warrior" in the same mod.

First of all he asked a reasonable question,

Second this brings this great unit to the attention of other newbies.

Welcome to civfanatics joeskip.
As for the regular swordsman I'd say it works best for Germanic civilisations, like Germany and the Vikings.

thanks for the advice both of you

I see no problem with you posting on any old thread for a question, but you can also post in the main customization page, you can ask many questions of different units, and the title of your thread can bring more people's attention to the thread ^ ^

nice one utah,
reminds me of the male human character of illarion (online RPG game),
the spearman a good match too!
