Modern Aircraft Carrier

A/D/M 3/16/8

Carries up to eight aircraft, can use fighters for point defense, adding to its defense value.

Requires Uranium, Rubber, Aluminum

Required tech Computers

Any other ideas?

Different nukes, or at the very least a smaller nuke which only affects one square. Maybe even just the MOAB unit.

Chemical and biological weapons for sure. Where's the mustard gas? Or catupults with plague infected corpses?

Other ideas which I don't care about:
Siege towers or something similar. Could reduce the city wall defensive bonus.
Huminatrian aid workers. They could be sent in appease newly conquered citizens (but wouldn't affect resistors)

Defence is far too high. You'd never be able to sink the bugger! I think also that 8 planes is a bit too much. Maybe 6?

How about a WWI era tank? Could have a A/D/M of 10.8.2 and available with industrialization or replaceable parts.

I actually had an original idea for landmines the other day. Instead of making them a unit, make a terraform action "Lay Minefield". Minefielding a tile sets its movement cost to three, meaning that any enemy unit entering one of yours will immediately stop. This way, if you mine an entire border, the enemy first has to clear a path thru them (by moving in and pillaging on the next turn) before he/she/it can launch a traditional Cav/Tank/MA sweeping offensive, subjecting him/her/itself to potentially crippling counterattacks.

While this would actually improve gameplay is an open question, but it at least make the static wars some people have requested more likely.

Edit: I imagine the Minefield would replace the Mine/Irrigation, representing the fact that you cannot utilize the mine-littered areas normally. This would also discourage unrealistic "defenses in depth" were an entire nation is covered in Minefields.

@ The Last Conformist

That is a cool idea. :goodjob:

You may just call it something like Earthwork Defenses so that is represents not only landmines, but other items used to impede invasions - concrete blocks, earth walls, trenches, barbed wire, etc. The pillaging command represenst the unit clearing a path through these impediments.

For your information Beserk, tanks came out in World War I, when they were first used. Most were an ugly trapezoid shape, and were armed with machine guns. They also got bogged down a lot, but were effective at clearing barbed wire etc. This is what SuperBeaver was talking about.

Before you come in here insulting people's intelligence, you should make sure you don't sound foolish doing it.

Berserk, you really should read posts more carefully, as I said WWI, not WWII. And SinisterDeath is right.
This is what a WWI tank looked like:

It's abstracted. How else do you think they reduce the city pop?

Name: Cataphract

Unique unit for Persians or Byzantines, if they ever include them

Replaces Knight, requires Chivalry

A/D/M: 5/4/2, costs 50 shields.

Requires: Iron, Horses

Also, on the Modern Aircraft carrier thing, if it is in range of a Battleship, it can be bombarded to kingdom come before it can launch any fighters.

If you look in the Unit Graphics forum there is a Cataphract unit there. And it is pretty good.
