New Unit: Otomo Swordsman

Agreed! The way I see it, AC, AoK and Cossack units are just place-holders untill we get better versions.

Thanks for the comment. If they are just place holders, I could keep them for my own mod instead of releasing them to everybody.

Beside, even if I like kinboat job a lot, I'm not sure he can make really "better" versions, given the amount of details GSC already put in the American Conquest units.

lol, the Samurai Archer (one of my personal favorites) will fill the Crossbowman/Longbowman slot for the Japanese. The Stone Crossbowman will be used for the Chinese. :D
I know, thats the problem. Both units could fill the gap. Ohwell I´ll stop whining(sp?), but I still disagree(just dont know the sollution).

Well sorry if I offendede you, it was´nt meant like that, the units are great, the problem is that they dont fitt into civ scale, they are slightly too big.

don't let my comments keep you from releasing those units, I don't want the backlash to come down on me. :D

whether Kinboat can produce "better" units is all just a matter of taste. I like Kinboat's better, but there are others who will like the AC units. But just because the units were created by "professionals" doesn't mean they are superior to use made units.

You of all people should realize that as you are yourself trying to improve on the game itself. What would you say if someone told you that SSS couldn't possibly be better than Civ3 simply because Firaxis has already put in so much time and effort into Civ3? I am guessing you would tell them they were bonkers and ignore them, sure in your heart that you could make a better product than the "professionals". Am I right? I think the same principle applies to units, other graphics, mods, and scenarios.

I think what Yoda means is, that while those units are good, they're not original. And as I have understood, originality is a virtue ;).

And I seriously doubt, that anyone would have the time to make all those cavalry/infantry/indian units provided in those conversions :)

I agree Kinboat units blend more in CivIII than American Conquest units. After all, they were not exactly designed for this kind of game.

If we add already units for everything, I wouldn't mind in the slightest do make new versions.

But I think we have huge gaps in China, India or Africa. Except a few elephants by Dom Pedro, India as no units! And China, or even Japan, have almost nothing out of of middle ages. It would be great to have more industrial / modern units.

It's just a question of priority. As we have American Conquest to "fill the gaps" for American (including native) and European countries, I think it would be better to concentrate efforts on other part of the world, before doing new version.

Well I agree that Asian/African units are mores needed, I just still thinks there is a need for Native american units.

I was DYING for a high quality Japanese swordsman to add to my Secret Project:shiftyeyes:, and I suspect this will be it! I was hoping not to have to use fan made units but this one appears to be such high quality I might just forget that it's a fan made unit ;)

Are you kidding? Some of the best units available are fan made!!!

A very small fraction of fan made units are the best units avaliable. While many units fill unfilled purposes, I end up not using a lot I download because there will be a few small problems that show off their unprofessionality, such as sounds, movement animations, etc. Besides, for the Secret Project that I'm working on, I'm trying to stick to stock units as much as I possibly can.

What sounds would people recommned to import for this unit?
