Madman or Hero?
Well yeah they did,but they rarely used them.The Vikings found it honorable to fight on foot then on horse back.So riders would have to dismount to fight.Hey I don't know why they did this,but I'm just going with the history books.

The style of clothing is definetly Slavic, as is the shield. It doesn't belong as the horseman replacement for a German civ, and personally, I find it stupid to give a unit to several civs because it takes away the whole point of "flavor units".
This one belongs to the Russians, unless you have modded in the Poles or a Pan-Slav civ.
Someone is already making a Teutonic Knight.

Yes, but until we have a full compliament of flavour units I'm gonna use a best fit. And while Viking cavalry were quite rare in real life, Civ3 is a game. How many real-life Civs have Stealth Bombers?
One last word about Viking Cavalry in real life: Normans.
Its a game, its a fun game. You want more accuracy play EU2 (another great game), you want a fun loose game with beautiful units like this, play Civ.
You don't want to use this as anything else thats fine. But I see more potential for this unit and just wanted to thank Utahjazz7 for the possabilities of this unit. I know my choices aren't historically accurate and I don't care. They're fun and a closer fit than the vanilla horseman. Not a perfect solution but for me its enough.

It is the norman knight. It was made to be the horseman/knight replacement for Viking civs.

Sorry for continuing this OT... but I thought the Norman Knight can be only replacement for french knight. People who speak french and live in France aren't the scandinavian vikings anymore. At the time Normans were conquering Europe and more, they were just French, not Norwegian.

Well, even if it's named the "Norman Knight" it was made to look like a Viking horseman, and that's what you should use it for. It shouldn't be a french knight because the french knights of the time looked very different.

Right so we're back to this unit being the best fit for a purely Viking cavalry unit. Even if it is meant to be Slavic. If for no other reason than its a blonde guy swinging an axe from horseback. And I like it. A lot.

Awesome Unit utahjazz7...Love the Great Animation Detail and the way the Horse Rears Up with the Attack Action. Wonderful Job.

I recently reworked Utah's slavhorseman for my own personal game, expanding his civ colouring onto the shield, and figured I'd share it in case someone else finds this version useful.
I also modified the fortify.flc, adding two frames to the end so that the horse sets down again at the end of the anim, and I made this the fidget.flc.
The files are renamed as Northern Horseman for my mod, but you can easily change that to suit yourself.
