Hi everyone,

As you may have realized, CivFanatics recently converted the main site to a more flexible content management system. Because of this, individual users are now able to create content on their own (although it still has to go through "moderation" -- that is, there's a delay before your content becomes visible for quality control purposes). This new ability has specific implications for the War Academies: it means that individual users can add their own articles, thereby transforming the War Academy into a more fluid, up-to-date assembly of articles. Additionally, I believe it's possible for users to update their own current articles in the War Academies, as articles have their respective author's name as the "author" of that page (or so I think. I haven't tested it out yet, though, so some confirmation would be much appreciated.)

Here's how you can get involved: by going to the War Academy page, click the category you think is most appropriate. Then, select "Add child page" in the bottom right hand corner, and give it a title, category tags (Civilization III and Strategy are the default, but can be added in later, so it's no big deal.) Next, just copy over the body of your post (vB codes work fine). Optionally, you can give it a URL, but that's subject to change (I'll look over your article before approving it). Once you're done, just preview hit and press submit. I might view your article on the forum to see what the response of other members is, but other than that, it's pretty easy. Hopefully this makes keeping the War Academy updated much easier.

Let me know how this works out for you, particularly if you're interested in trying it out at this moment (either by adding a new article, or trying to update one of your old ones). I'm curious to see how well this works. Feel free to post any comments you might have in this thread... :)

One thing that I discovered is that, when submitting an article created with vB codes, it's also necessary to open up a small "Input Format" box down below the Body of the article, and select "vBCode" for the format. The default setting appears to be "Filtered HTML," and the preview comes out all wrong if you don't change the format. Perhaps those with better computer skills than I would already know to do this, but it took me a few minutes to find that little box.

I overlooked that part I guess.
I got something like this:

Governments: Civilization 3 Complete V1.22 <br /><br /> What you should know:<br />Town: 1-6 population<br />City: 7-12 population (requires fresh water or an aquaduct)<br />Metro: 12+ population (requires a

etc
But the code stayed in place... so it lookes like crap! :D
Anyway, I can't even find it back there. So uhm, if anyone can find it and fix it; they're welcome :D

Thanks a lot Theov. I approved your page and you can view it here (with the URL /civ3/governments/).

The problem you were having was this: you were using forum tags (that is, things like [b] and [url]), but the input must have been set to HTML. Or, you were using the rich-text editor but still using the forum's display formatting. Anyway, I fixed it for you and changed the title, but other than that, it was fine. Let me know if you have more questions. :)

Do you also review reference articles before posting? If so, how would I submit them?

Select "add child page" where you want your article to go.
To be honest, I sent my Gov page over there, but I messed up and somehow Ginger_Ale cleaned up. Thannnnnnnnnnnx. :goodjob::D
So it's not perfect, but it's good.
.
I'd rather see stickies though rather than an overview no one can make comments about.
Comments and feedback are often more than 50% of the info.

You might have learned the difference between data and info. 222 333 is data. An avarage of 2.5 of that is info.
The war academy is data. It's useful, but you need info to use it.

Post a link in the article to a discussion thread. I still see replies to 5 year old threads dicussing other war academy articles. Start a threaddiscussing governments, and link to it from your article.
