New World War II Scenario

I noticed in one of the above screenies that the soviets have Focke Wulf 190s? Hope that is just for testing purposes:o

Hi all,

Testing purposes of cause. :crazyeye:

I am connected to the internet, but all my work is on my computer back in Denmark. I just took most of the txt. files with me to Estonia so I could continue the work over here. ;)

Just a note on the wonders: "Churchill's election", he was never elected (well he was in the 1960s but anyway), he became Prime Minister the first time in the forming of a coaltion goverment after Chamberlain resigned the opposition would only join under Churchill. Mabe "Churchill's defiance" would be better?

Thx Greeny, note taken into account. Never been so strong in British politics.

Btw. Willem, what do yoy mean with Island Hopping as a tech?

not so much for the tech, but if you need a tech to activate a certain unit related to this or something, and you don't know what you could do as a tech, this would be an idea.

Ah, ok.

The scenario will heavily rely on techs and units only limited to some nations. All nations will not be able to produce any of the others units regardsless if they are allied or not except for a few cases. For instance Japan will not be able to produce German units and vice versa, where Minor Axis will be able to produce Pz II (and maybe Pz IV) but not Tiger, Königstiger etc.

Hi all,

I just made an estimated status on how long I am in the proces:

Map Creation: 99 %
City Placement: 97%
Units Placement: 45%
Units.gif: 90 %
Rules.txt: 99 %
Events.txt: 95 %
Descripe.txt: 20 % (NEW!)
Balancing: 85 %
Playtesting: 20 %
Overall Polish: 10 %

Log:
-----
15/1 completed new calculations on the unit stats. Balancing up 5 %, Rules.txt up 15 %
17/1 completed rewriting of improvements and wonders in Rules.txt. Rules.txt up 4 %, just needed to be tested now!
20/1 written new entries in the descripe.txt. New at 10 %.
22/1 written new entries in the descripe.txt. Up 10 %.

I am going to regulate this as frequent as there are major breakthroughs. Guess I shouldn't spend time writing this silly report and get back to work instead.

Best Regards

BKA

Another Screenshot btw.

I like those Nemonesque cities! :goodjob: ;)

Don't you think Aalborg should be included, as it was the main objective and strategic possession in Denmark...?

LOL , this AGNA not-AGNA is getting out of hand:D

Yeah, I guess you are right Insurgent.

But as it will be a bit too crouded with them both I will sack
Aarhus then. Didn't gave it a thought when I placed the cities but you are right. It's a small thing but it's called perfection.

Glad you like the screenshots. I hope it will live up to my own expectations as well. I have been inspired by many sources as earlier mentioned, but clearly also from Axis and Allies and the old 5-star serie from SSI (PZ general and Pacific general) together with watching a lot of "Battlefield" on Discovery. I would like it to be as addictive as those games mentioned.

I'm looking very much forward for the scenario, it looks great!

I love Discovery Channel. About the boardgames, have you ever played "The Russian Campaign" by Avalon Hill?

Discovery Channel rocks! I can sit up all night watching those documentaries concerning ww2 :) I also ordered Discovery Civilisation recently; a channel packed with history :D

Right now they run an hour "Battlefield" at 1700 o' clock every weekday, and as I am finished at work at 1630 it's just so perfect! One hour of drooling each day! :king:

I guess I havn't played "The Russian Campaign". What's it like?

Two years ago I played A LOT of A&A with Morten Blaabjerg (from this forum) and some other guys. The special about it was that one of those was a REAL A&A fanatic. To describe to you the sheer fanatism in his addiction he had singlehanded enlarged the board in 3 copies so that it now measured around 2x1 meters, laminated it all and attached them on wooden tables. It looked so great! Besides of that he owned around 10 normal games of A&A, 5 A&A Europe and a good deal of expansion packs.
And not at least: He had personally bought casted models of all the tanks represented in the game, which he together with the rest of the normal plastic models had painted! With the huge board and all the painted models it looked just awesome!
The shame was that his fanatism made him a very nasty player, so the fun playing against him was very limited.
Do any of you like the Hasbro A&A "Iron Blitz" expansion? I think it's better than the original, though still infected with some bugs especially memory leeks (hey, it's a Hasbro game right?, LOL)

Where? On Discovery Civilisation? In Estonia? (says he bloodpressure rising, pulse intensifying) I only have Discovery Channel, our stupid cabel network doesn't have Discovery Civilisation... :(

http://www.geocities.com/russiancampaign/ - it's an old Avalon Hill game about Operation Barbarossa. That, and another old East Front game - "von Manstein's Backhand Blow - The Last Victory" - are the only ones I have. But the Russian Campaign is a great game, it's kept me playing with my brother for hours and hours - sometimes even days. It's perfect in simulating reality, and you feel the desperation, and are just captured by it.
Besides, I'm an East Front freak, so it's well suited for me. :D
I just found out they play international championships in it... :D

If only I had... I'd really like to try it... :(

Wow, what a maniac! :) I have the world edition with iron blitz, the european edition and the pacific edition. It's a genious game, but this editied version sounds even more fun...do you think he will sell it one day :D

LOL, yeah when he is dead and buried!

TRC seems pretty ok. Hard to tell of cause without having read the rules but I would certainly like to try it someday. Any hope?

Shame that FMK's Stalingrad scenario seems to have come to a standstill. I once also thought about making such a scenario ( I guess we all have a lot of ideas never going to be realized up in hour heads) but actually when I am finished with this I will try to make a scenario covering the battle for Berlin. I have so many splendid ideas that I think could turn out to be a little fun scenario where 2-3 players could tease each other a lot.
I am so fascinated by the last resistance of Germany (probably because they at that time really where the underdogs) and seeing those cool pictures of weary and battlehardened soldiers readying their panzerfaust's, their uniforms showing how many they'll allready taken out, just makes my heart beat a little ekstra (yeah I know I am sick) :(

Concerning Discovery I am not quite sure which one I have in my apartment. I have two different ones but I think the one I am seeing the "Battlefield"'s on is Discovery Europe. Does that make any sense? Remember though that there is 1 hour time difference between Estonia and central Europe so it would start at 4pm your time.

Best regards

Some more info about the scenario:

-All tanks will ignore ZOC to represent their ability to breach a defensive line but they don't ignore city walls. As in real life you need men to capture and hold a city.
-There will be no port facilities because battleships simply don't repair within a month.
-There will also be no airports apart from the a "Transsiberian railroad" because unit transfer will distort the balance.

lol, yeah, I'm going to go buy Antony Beevor's "Berlin" this weekend, I loved his "Stalingrad" book, but they cost 400 Dkr (about $60)!

About FMK's scenario, I am horrified that the project is at a standstill... :( I wrote him a PM on Poly, and he told me that he hadn't ceased the project permanently. I suggest you write him too, to keep the pressure on him... ;) For Christ's sake, I'd pay for it!

I think I have Discovery Scandinavia, different programming... :(

Oh, TRC is great. I love to for instance be the Germans and follow the "Manstein Doctrine" all through. I'd have large armoured formations defending Poland, instead of wasting my armour in hopeless battles of defence... Where in Denmark do you reside?
Although I'm not too impressed with the last stand of the Germans (come on, "Volkssturm"?! ;) ), I was impressed when a Russian told me that more than a million Russian troops were killed in the last months, the defence of the Germans was apparently tougher than the official sources claim. Though the number probably is over-estimated, it certainly states large losses...

When is the scenario supposed to start?

Yeah it starts in jan 1939. I have been in doubt about this several times but until now I stick to it. The plus is that there will be some turns before all-out-war, where there is a change to do some personal buildup together with some diplomacy. Also in the period there will be some conflict areas, so war is of cause present. The drawback is that full action this way is a bit delayed but I think it will be ok.

I reside in Odense. You?

Actually there is a possibility that the stats are true. The former Soviet archives have come up with a lot of new data and together with that the final days, as far as i remember, turned out to be a reckless race between Zhukow and Konev to claim victory in Berlin could support the figures. But yeah a million sounds a lot.
