Hi everybody!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I used to play civ 2 or 3 in high school and then stopped till i picked up civ 4 on steam for cheap last year. I was unable to play civ 5 as my laptop was outdated and wouldn't run in.
Well I finally made a long needed computer upgrade and I checked out the demo for civ 5 and was blown away. Looked like a completely different game. So I had to buy the full version and I'm steamrolling my first game on level 3 difficulty.
I thought this would be similar to noble on civ 4. I'm playing Chinese, standard settings. It is just now before 1000 ad and I have wiped out the Aztec, French, and Polynesian civs. And a few city states. I have the contenint for myself now with a couple friendly city states. I have explored most of the world and am about ready to upgrade my trebuchets to cannons and embark them over to stomp washington and some other civ that I forget who it is.
Now, civ 5 seems to be so much faster paced and more fun than civ 4. I love the lack of stacking, feels like how it should have always been. Also the ranged attacks are great. And science and gold being seperated are nice. I really think the overall gameplay of civ 5 is HUGELY improved.
Combat feels more strategy oriented and terrain is so much more important.
Overall though, I think it feels easier than 4. I am not sure if this is because it doesn't need the crazy micromanagement that 4 did or level 3 is lower then noble on 4. I look forward to many games and maybe even some MP.
