wow... i mean just wow.... i got this game a few weeks after it came out, played it for a little bit and stopped, why? i don't really know... but my love for this game was just rekindled in a fiery blast of some giant fireball of sorts, lol, i look at all these mods and i frown greatly at myself for not following civ4 and its community's progress up until now, i feel i've missed out on a lot

anyways, i have a few questions
1. i'm pretty sure this was the site i ran into when i first got the game and there was a guy talking about making a really good fantasy mod with magic and spells and a bunch of kool stuff, i know that's really vague but if anyone knows what i might be talking about or knows the best fantasy mod out right now, please point me in the right direction :)

2. basically modding and where to get started, i know i should learn python and/or XML, and i was just wondering where i can find tutorials on these and also unit image modding, where can i find a program for that?

hmmmm, i think that's all right now....at least that's what's on the top of my head, and i know these kind of seem like questions that you know, i could find the answers to myself, but it's kind of overwhelming to look at this site and see all the tons of information and just feel helpless before it all, heh, sooo, a little newbie help pls? just point me in the right direction and i'll be off, thanks!

yeah, fall from heaven was definitely what i was looking for, which would you suggest is better? 1 or 2?

and another quick question, everyone always talks about making mods and putting them in your mods folder, how do i put something in there and switch between various mods in the game?

As a FfH fan, I can only say that Fall From Heaven 2 must be the greater one. But it is still a beta - more or less. Unlike FfH 1 however, it includes a whole new world with a different set of civs and some more sophisticated features.
AFAIK FfH 1 is the finished, first version. Apart from the fantasy Civs made by Haarbal (separate download!), it uses the generic civs, but already all those great features- spells, summonable critters of any kind and really cool religions! So if you're new to the whole thing I would definitely say that you should start with version 1, as it is still the more "polished product" (according to Kael and his crew)- the programming and designing process is not yet finished. I hope that this will be changed as soon as FfH 2 goes gold (Can't wait for that day!) :cry: . Warning: Both mods are LARGE: ~122 MBs!

I don't actually play either. I'd guess 2 is probably better, but not yet complete.

In your civ4 directory, there should be a link to a 'civ4config' file, in that file you can set:

Mod = Mods/WhateverMod

or you can try to load a mod through the menus, but that doesn't seem to work for everyone (advanced - load a mod)

When you install a mod, you should wind up with a directory structure like this:

mods folder\ModName\Assets\
mods folder\SomeOtherModName\Assets\

etc. One folder under the mod folder for each mod, with Assets immediately under that.

the mods folder is either under the civ4 directory as 'Mods' or linked to your personal file area as _civ4CustomMods
