Please give me some advice.

According to the manual, "if at any time you control the only settled civilisation, you win, and the End Game Sequence proclaims you the ruler of the world."

In my first game I've conquered everyone three times now, but new ones keep popping up.

The second time I wiped them all out, I made sure that I conqured the last two remaining civs simultaneously.

The third time, I built Marco Polo's Embassy and checked that there were only 2 other civs. I surrounded their settlers so that they could not build a city, making me the only settled civilisation. I still didn't win. I then finished them off, again making sure to eliminate them on the same turn.

However, the game continued and now the Babylonians have appeared out of nowhere. :wallbash: I don't think I can face the task of chasing them down again with no conviction it will end the game.
I could build a spaceship but that will take 000's of years, and against no credible opposition it will be rather boring.

I could just declare myself the winner and move on to a new game, but it feels unsatisfactory. I'm sure all you experts are bored of the End Game Sequence, but I feel like I deserve it right now!

When you set up a game you can decide wether you want to have the option: "Don't restart eliminated Players" or not. You probalbly disabled this option.:)

You can declare yourself as the winner. I agree. When you Play a game and go the conqueror way, it's pretty boring to land on ac in hundreds of turn because all the infrastructur and city improvements for a good research are not build yet. You are a WINNER!!!.:)

I could be wrong, but I think you have to go into "customize rules" when starting a new game to change the "Don't restart eliminated players" option. I'm pretty sure there is a point in the game where it will stop restarting other civs and let you claim your well-deserved victory. Something in the back of my mind says that is 1500 AD, but I could be wrong. I rarely play with restarted civs, so I don't know for sure.

Yes, under customize rules, you can flag the do not restart option.
If you like to play conquest, its a good idea, since one of the most frustrating things in the game is chasing down that last AI settler.

Thanks for your replies.
1500 AD! yoi! It's still BC!
I'm afraid I've no idea how I set the game up. I remember being asked some questions, but I don't recall the answers I gave. It's been over a week since I started.
I'll be sure to turn the option off next time.

Be sure to choose a higher difficulty level too! Sounds like you're off to a good start! :goodjob:

Good luck with this game. Just keep wiping out the AI civs. Eventually, you will prevail and win the game. It is frustrating, but worth the effort. The end-of-game movie for conquest is cool!
