You're absolutely correct. It works perfectly for per turn deals. Resource and luxury trade deals are also not negotiated unless there's a per/turn componenet.

Depends. Whoever fires the first shot will get war declared on them. And so forth with all the other stuff; if another country fires a shot against another, it'll activate MPPs with those other countries.

Seriously though, if you have a case where EVERYONE has an MPP with everyone there's something up.
You must bear in mind a declaration of war is not going to force an MPP in to action, neither is attacking an enemy in your own territory.

Not quite true. I spend a lot of time there now I am playing a PBEM game :)

Yes, but I will answer in the multiplayer forum.

Will there always be insane amounts of jungle terrain no matter what climate/temperature settings I choose? It's really weird, I always see more jungle than I do any other terrain type... and a lot of the time I get stuck with waaaay too much jungle in or around my territory, which really sucks because it kills my commoners, slows down my units, slows down city growth, provides very little usable resources and shields, never has as many rivers running through as I generally see on tundra, plains, and grassland tiles, AND it takes 20 turns to clear.

Welcome to CFC :)

If you have a life, please escape now. Burn Civ quickly. ;)

Funnily enough, I have exactly the same problem in my current game

1) Large clumps together usually means your world age is only 3 billion years - this leads to clumps of all types of terrain. Try setting it to 5 billion years for a more chequered effect.

2) Also, don't set the climate to wet, as I believe this causes more jungles (may be wrong here, I will RTFM to be sure).

3) Maybe hot temperature effects this as well, but IIRC, it doesn't.

(1) is fact. (2) I'm almost sure about, and (3) is just intuition. Hopefully someone else post confirmation/denial of this.

Doesn't the 5 Billion Years setting vastly increase the amount of mountains and hills? I prefer flatter terrain... but maybe I have the settings mixed up...

Hmm, I prefer grasslands, plains, and forests, so could Normal/Cold or Arid/Cold reach that effect?

I've been playing civ2 for quite some time, but just got a new computer and decided to try civ3 again (I got bored last time). It's not going too well, but it's improving...
When right-clicking on a city I get the menu and I understand most of the alternatives, except rally point. Could someone explain what it means?
Thank you:)

I would think that longer time frames would make the terrain flatter, if anything (erosion, et al).

What do you guys do about jungles? Quite a few times I have to make a city right in the middle of a vast jungle to get the resources and luxuries... But jungles are especially bad for making cities cuz you hardly get any food or shields. And then there are diseases..

Whats the best strategy? clear up the jungle and make grasslands that you can then irrigate?

I imagine that Rally Points function in similar ways as the Rally Points in RTS games, like Starcraft and Age of Empires.

Clearing jungles takes FOREVER... I usually avoid building cities in them unless I have to. Sometimes I'll just build colonies on the resources I need.

I just checked and:

1) The manual says that 3m. is clumps of terrain, 4m. is diverse terrain and 5m. is 'softened' terrain from errosion (as DANGERBOY says)

2) is correct

3) Hot climate = more jungle, cool = less

A rally point is a location that newly created units will automatically travel to upon completion.
