Ok, back with another question today :) I know I saw something about it somewhere, but glossed over it at the time, and now I cannot find it again. What does the little sun icon it the bottom right box indicate?

what does a Golden Age do for your Civ?? I only glanced through the manual but I couldn't find it.

Gives you 1 extra shield and 1 extra gold in every tile that is already producing at least one gold/shield. So it almost (but not quite) doubles your production and commerce for 20 turns. Having a golden age while in despotism is often a waste because of the tile penalty (any tile that produces 3 or more of something gets 1 taken away. So roads on rivers normally produce 2 gold, golden age will bring this to 3, but the tile penalty drops it back to 2. Same thing with bonus grassland and shields.)

When you build multiple plants (factory, nuclear, manufacturing) that do not replace, does the extra shield (%50 or %100) come from the original amount of shields or from the upped amount? Ex: 10 shields, w/ a plant it becomes 20. When you build a nuclear plant, will it become 40 or 50?

Also what is better: industrious or democracy? Should you get industrious for the worker speed or just stay in democracy to get the extra worker speed?

I want both!!!
If you like those workers to really work hard, the combination of industrious/democracy is great. They don't rule each other out...

I believe they are all applied to the original base value.

So base of 10 shields.

One +50% improvement : 15 shields

One +100% : 20 shields

Two +50%s : 20 shields

One 50% and one 100% : 25 shields

etc etc etc

It is important to note that the power plants that replace each other increase factory output, while factories and manufacturing plants increase base production. So with a base production of 10 shields, a factory, nuclear plant, and manufacturing plant you would get a total of 25 shields.

Base = 10
Factory = Base * 50% = 5
N. Plant = Factory * 100% = 5
M. Plant = Base * 50% = 5

10 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 25

I was wondering how you could take screenshots of the Civ3 game. I've tried PrintScreen but that doesn't seem to work. Please help...

Which OS are you using? I use WinXP and Prnt Scrn (or Alt+Prnt Scrn) and then pasting into MS Paint does the job fine and dandy. In fact, by tapping the windows key while Civ3 is running I can get paint open while in-game, paste and save my screen shot, close paint, move the screen (perhaps zoom in/out, or go to a city-view say, and repeat). I'm not sure those will work outside XP though.

There's some more info in the FAQ - it's the second item in the first section.

Other than that, I'm stumped.

If you capture a city with the JS Bach's Cathedral (or any other great wonder), but you don't have the Music Theory tech, will the Cathedral be functional?

how do you cancel deals?

You can't, not really anyway. Ways to stop a deal are:
- You can go to war with the opponent
- You can cut off the trade route with the other civ
- You can cut off the access to your resource
- Beyond your control: the resource may be 'culture-flipping' to another civ

These are all bad for your reputation. This takes centuries to heal.

- You can wait until the 20-turn deal runs out and not renew it.

I'm pretty sure that it does.

Just in case that last sentence is too succinct...

There is an option in the preferences to "always renegotiate deals" (or similar wording). If you don't have that selected to yes then the deal will NOT be offered for renewal; it will extend automatically. Which is a bad thing if you bought a tech for 30gpt, I think.

If the deal has not been offered for renewal, and you think it should be cancelled, then start talking to the civ concerned (either through F4 screen or by clicking on one of their units). At the bottom of the deal making screen are two options for "new" and "active" deals. Click on "active" and it will tell you what deals you have with that civ. Any with a number in brackets next to then are deals still in the initial 20 turn period, and can only be cancelled with a reputation hit, but if there is no number you should be able to click on them, it will bring up the original deal (those parts of it still active, all the per turn stuff basically) and you can then cancel it, as you would reject a "new" deal.

That's all 'vanilla' Civ3 - I think PTW has a slightly diffeent approach (or another way to do it, anyway).

Is there anyway to completely build the space ship and NOT launch it?? Other than turning it off as a win condition...Thanks

I don't think so, launching the SS seems to be the only option when you have all the 10 components.
