And I remember that there is no defense difference between Democracy and Communism (both on hard) and it refers to defense against all spy missions including spy planting.
IIRC, Democracies are immune to spies being planted. 100% chance of failure....

Wow. So me never trying to plant a spy in a democracy was all a bit pointless then :hmm:

How do I get the diplomacy screen to show all the leaders in the game? There is only space for 7 leaders plus myself.

Found the answer on pg 5 of this thread. THANKS!

nice little easter egg i guess

simply go tto the FAQ threads with stuff like that. I try to have all the info in there in an easy-to-browse way.

So if you think a question must also have occured to others, good bet the answer is in the FAQ thread.....

What I want to know is, if you move the palace do you lose the culture bonus for age - i.e. does the palace's culture value start over when you build it in a new city? (IMO that would be a problem with the build FP/move capital strategy if so).

Yeah, I thought that, too. Then I wondered exactly how much would I be losing? Well, the palace gives ONE culture point per turn. It may start over for the purposes of venerability, but you don't lose the culture points you've already accumulated, so, if it were not doubled for venerability, all I would be losing is one c.p. per turn if I moved the palace!

Anyone else see a fault in my logic or another disadvantage to moving the palace?

And never less than 20 of course, unless you are playing a mod :)

I don't think the maximum loss can get anywhere near 1000. More like 600, but the exact figure can be found from the editor.

The essential point being, it is small enough to ignore the effect.

Hello all. New to the forum, been civving for years.

I have several questions which I can't see the answers to in the faq. I'm using Civ3 v1.29f.

1) Is there any way to tell which map squares have been previously deforested?

2) What do armies count for the purposes of garrison strength in the culture-flip formula? I.e. is it 1 or the number of units in the army?

3) If I starve or build workers/settlers out of a captured city until it is no more, will I get the same reputation hit as for razing/disbanding it?

4) Is it true that you get a reputation hit for using foreign workers? If so, is this just with the civ whose workers you're using, or all civs?

TIA

according to culture:
what happens if you build a wonder, lose it and recapture it?
-get culturepoints per turn back, even if output already doubled or no future output
like 'regular' case wonder capture

1. No, but that doesn't really matter I think.
2. That's a good question. I think they count as a. the units in the army plus b. the army itself. I believe it's like that, since that's how the units are listed in the military advisor screen.
3. No.
4. Not a rep hit, but it influences the stance of the civ whose workers you use as slaves (not sure though)

I would have thought that only offensive units count, as workers, settlers and explorers are all listed in the Military Advisor, and they do not garrison.

IIRC, the Army unit is 0.0.1, and so will not have a garrison ability.

Edit: This is just speculation, not fact :)

Shabbaman: Thanks for the answers.

The reason I was asking about deforested squares was that, as I understand it, you only get the 10 shields from deforesting once per square. So you can forest up a grassland, chop it down and get the 10 shields. But if you do it on a previously deforested square you get 0 shields. So, it would be handy to know which squares have had forest on. Particularly when taking over enemy territory.

Galcador: it would be nice, as would be many things... go ask Firaxis

btw: non-availablility of valuable information is a characteristic of the entire Civ series.... it took at least 5 tries (Civ1, Civ2, CivNet, Civ3, PTW) to get the ability to sort cities by name.....
