Can someone explain saving a screen shot for me from the game? I have tried Control-Prnt Scrn, but where do I find it to open it in paint? Are there other downloadable programs to screen shot? Also, how do I and where do I find info on how to post separate paragraphs in my posts? Thanks.

When you hit "Prnt Scrn", the screenshot is stored in the computer's memory. It works exactly like if you would copy&paste a piece of text. So what you need to do is just click on edit->paste as new image in MS Paint, and voila, the screenshot appears. :)

The main benefit of screen capture software is that you can store several pictures in memory at the same time.

I hit control-prnt screen and was able to paste into paint. However, when I did another screen shot, the original was pasted. How do I find the other "saved" screenshots in the clipboard and/or get rid of files in the clipboard?

One more thing, the only screen shots I have are of the desktop running underneath, not the game. Any suggestions?

Hmm. Well, the no hospitals is quite deliberate.
In III the pollution is so bad, and so difficult to deal with, that I don't build hospitals until I have the capability to build Mass Transit. In previous games I followed my old Civ II pattern of building hospital (ie sewer system) as fast as I could get it, but then discovered that I immediately needed an ARMY of workers just to try to keep up with the pollution (which was nearly impossible in that game 'cuz I had no coal and thus no RR) and my cities kept LOSING pop instead of gaining because the citizens would come OFF the polluted squares and become entertainers or tax collectors, and then they wouldn't go back on the squares after the pollution was cleaned up unless I remembered to manually go through each city each turn and put them back after the workers cleaned up the pollution. It was a nightmare!!

In CivII I used to not build factories until I had Hoover and sometimes not until I had solar plants; in III I have extrapolated that strategy to not build hospitals until I have Mass Transit because the pollution became such an overwhelming (and frustrating) problem that it took all the fun out of the latter part of the game. FYI, 3 or 4 turns after I uploaded the save I researched ecology and started building hospitals in about 60 - 70% of my cities, with MT to follow immediately after.

JMO! Maybe you have a better solution for the pollution? :D

And thanks very much for your input and willingness to help. I'm grateful for any and all of you who are willing to try to help the newbie; I certainly don't expect you to be Gracious to boot, especially since I have nothing worth trading! :mischief:

Since armies units count as military police, along with the units inside them, I'd guess that armies help against culture flips/

Frequently asked question thread has really helped me. There is one other thing that I am curious about.

How do you know when you get a unique unit that can trigger the Golden age?

For example: if you are persia, your UU is the immortal. You can trigger a GA by building 1 immortal, attack with it , and win.

Pollution can be a problem in Civ3 (just have a nuclear war. Just one!) but I have so many workers running around that it is manageable. Plus all the slave labor you get for capturing other AI's workers/settlers (You get two workers for every settler) that while I may have a bunch of pollution, my workers are cleaning it. Also, with the Auto Pollution Clean button/key, workers themselves decide which pollution square to clean up. And while they're in this 'mode', they do pollution first, and when all pollution is gone, they ask for new orders.

A high pop city can be used as a worker farm, spitting out a new worker every turn or to, and still maintaining the pop of the city. I usually have so many workers at the end of the game that if I were to join them to cities before quitting, I would get quite a jump in score.

I can understand your logic in not wanting a city over 12. If that's you're playing style, you should look into placing your cities closer. There are threads around that deal with OCP (Optimal City Placement) and both styles of city expansion are covered in it. Can't provide a link to it, but you can run a search on it. You would get more cities in the same area, and your commerce would increase quite a bit.

.... a quick Q.....

After you pass your optimal city # and you have a faraway town that is nearly entirely corrupt, do courthouse/police station have ANY effect?

On a related subject, will WLTKD reduce corruption in the distant city at all, and if so, is this effect permanent or only during WLTKD.

Thanx,

A

Sometimes. It depends on the number of cities you have. Sometimes a 1 shield/1 gold city will provide more as it grows in size and gets those corruption reducers. If you are well over double the optimal # of cities, then nothing will save that city. A city is maxed out at 95% corruption, so no matter how bad corruption gets, a 21 shield city will produce 2 shields. (not worth the effort in that case).

Find Alexman's article 'Do you understand corruption' article in the strategy articles forum. I believe there is a link to it in the FAQ, but easier to find it if you go to the Strategy Articles forum since you now know the name of the article you're looking for.

Wait 20 turns, go into the screen and click on the mutual protection pact deal and don't renew it. Or you can check the option "Always Renegioate Deals" and when the option comes up to renew it, say "No way"

Is it possible to get a great leader from an elite warrior? I tried and I tried, but no luck. (not against barbarians, but against normal civs)

Any elite unit has the capacity to create a GL. Luck of the draw is what it boils down too. There are a couple of threads around here dealing with Great Leaders, if you want to track them down. There have even been a couple in the last day or two.
