OK, I have read the FAQ and I did some searches in the forum> However, not all of my questions were answered but thats probably because there is just so much info it's hard to find.

I have never played a civ game before. I just bought Civ III: Complete (along with Rise Of Nations: Gold). The one thing I don't like about Civ II is that it limits you on turns. Unless I am missing something, I just didn't like that. So my main questions are about getting rid of that turn limit and adding realism to Civ III.

My gaol (after learning how to play Civ III) is to have a realitic game where I can conquer the world without any turn limits, not based on points but based on territory gains. I want to be able to have a huge world map to play on. So I will need the following advice on what I need to get started (again, after I learn to play Civ II a bit better).

* I would to know if there are unit, map & building skin updates to the game to allow for more realism and a better looing game.

*More civilizations to play as or conquer.

*A mod to remove the turn limit (if at all possible).

* Anything else that you guys can think of :)

I hope that I am not asking to much as like I said earlier, I did do a search and found some of the answers I was lloking for but ddidn't find everyhting. So I figured I would ask them here.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

First off, there is no turn limit. A Civ3 game can be played forever. However, the score will stop going at some point. That's the turn limit you're thinking of. Good news and bad news: Bad news is, you can't get rid of it. The good news is, that you can keep playing after the last scoring turn, and you can increase the default turns from 540 to 1000. Those extra 460 turns may not sound like a lot, but it is. Consider that from 1750 (I think) until the end of the game (2050) is 200 turns, you've added 460 years to the end time. And you can still play after that, just no further score will be recorded. (For those of us who don't care about score, except as an indicator of our progress vs the AI, it's no big deal.)

As for the 'skin updates' (We call them mods here) I direct your attention to the Creation and Customization subforum. There is a lot of professionally done work (these guys are good, really good) there, and it's all free for download. Just find a thread that interest you, and go with that. I prefer the Rise And Rule mod, which adds a lot of content to the game. Almost doubling it, I think.

As for other suggestions, well, it's hard for me to suggest, because I'm not sure what you'd like. I like RnR, myself. Others prefer other mods. They even say they're better than RnR! Heresy! ;) Just browse around the forums and see what you can find. If you have a question about a mod, ask in that thread, and you'll get an answer better than just throwing it out here in GD.

Be sure to check out some of the graphics modpacks as well. They change the look of the game.

And above all, don't be afraid to ask! (I don't think you'll have that problem.) We might move the question to a more appropriate place (it sometimes happens ;)) but it will get answered.

You can't turn off the turn limit, but you can keep playing as long as you want, it just won't keep the score.

Welcome to CFC :)

if you were disapointed with CIVII with the turn limit, you wont be happier with CIVIII  of course like greekguy said, you can keep playing but it wont count. im not sure about the time limit in CIVII but in civIII you play 540 TURNS!!! i think thats enough to take over the world. i usually do it ;)

as far as i can tell playing on deity level of civ III if you cannot take over the world in 540 turns its probably because youve been conquered. at the lower levels this is not necessarily true because the ai players develop more slowly. therefore as you get skilled the turn limit becomes less and less of an issue. a bigger annoyance to you might be the cultural dimplomatic and space race victory conditions that may cut your game short when you knew you would otherwise have had a shot at a conquest victory. but these three victory conditions can be disabled in the startup menus if that is your inclination.

in short the turn limit is much less an issue than it would appear.
