Civilization VI - Game of the Month 106
Welcome to the 106th game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series.
Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, or Myself know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities. .

Information about threads associated with each individual 6otM -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.
Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date and final score (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.
Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top winner (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

I have the same problem I've seen others mention in other threasds - bought each of the updates individually and so am missing the Medici Persona pack - does anyone know if they will add this into the last of the modules or am I relegated to buying the season pass and double paying for some items?

Why would you throw bad money after good? The games have gone from 300 turns down to 150 and you won't participate unless you buy eeeeverything, for a prince difficulty <snip> map that you already know the opponents for since you didn't have their content? Why? Can't you choose Gaul and hit random on a low difficulty map, win in 90 turns, and be annoyed that there is no strategy to this game just the same?

Very nice challenge! I really like science as win condition for low difficulty games as it gives a secondary added challenge. I think the Gaul civ looks very interesting for a science challenge as well with an early rush.

No problem to start the game for me.

I agree. Science victory is not my jam. It actually takes me longer on lower difficulty levels - strangely more of a challenge which is fun.
Im pretty sure its the lack of money to steal um acquire from the AI that is makes it harder. The highlands map is actually a great map for science as it has significantly more useable land with a lower chance of being forward settled.

Absolutely, far less gold for trades can be slower! And also fewer developed cities to take; domination is my preferred style so being able to take over dozens of developed cities mid-game vs just a few undeveloped cities is slower also. Building up my own empire? - Blasphemy. Easier, but slower (for me).

I agree that science games are slower at lower difficulty levels for the reasons you mentioned (less gold from AIs, less developed cities to conquer, etc.), but I disagree that they are more of a challenge.
Maybe they are more of a challenge in the sense that it is more difficult to get an equivalent quick finish time (in terms of number of turns to victory), but for me the challenge increases as the speed of the game increases since it becomes increasingly more difficult to make everything fall into right places at the right time (eurekas/inspiration/etc.)

As for this particular game, it can get tricky to get high adjacency bonuses for campi with Gaul. However, it's way faster to plop mines adjacent to districts than build an entire new district next to it so that you can increase their adjacency way earlier. It's also very likely for hills to be found next to mountains. The Highlands map script also has more hills in general. Since there is a lot of land (and less water) on this map script, a good number of barbarian camps should be able to spawn on the map for a little longer. Ultimately, the finish time will mainly be impacted by how many barbarian camps convert to scientific states (and which ones). In other words, plain luck.

Also, the recent change to Earth Goddess might make it a bit more tricky to purchase that first Spaceport as I liked to purchase it with Moksha. Going for many holy sites might also not be the best idea here.

One thing I always find is that the combination of maps with large landmasses (highlands, inland sea) and low difficulty (prince-king) are conductive to intense barbarian activity. I think this is due to weak civs that have few units and which do not scout out the map, leading to many strong barb camps throughout the game, especially in the polar regions of the map.

True, but now they will all convert into city-states before the mid-game! (under the new barbarian clan game mode)

Looks like an interesting game. But I’m not too excited about the starting spot. No mountains for a Campus? what kind BS “highlands” is this? :) and not even any jungle! and no stone or marble for a good Oppidum? can I do a “Restart with a new map”? :)
