After much consideration, I have decided to move the settler. ;) The question is how far. In search of food bonuses?

With raging barbs I'm okay with a combo factory. So I'll just settle 1NW, wrkr to FP and irrigate. This works even better for me if that water to the NE is fresh (a mountain lake perhaps?). Then I'm happy with the placements of subsequent towns. Also 1NW keeps me in range of forests for granary chops. And I like ag civs for building an early 2nd wrkr.

@MinutiaRules,
That sounds quite sensible. But I have to ask: Does fresh water run through hill towns in C3C or is that just in ptw? If it does, placing a town on the hill 1SE makes a second source of fresh water redundant.

Yes, towns also channel irrigation in Conquests. But it looks like the hill just south of the hill you're talking about would do the job as well, so it doesn't need to affect your ideas about where the capital should go.

Thanks. Yes, but why would you want to place a town on that hill which is not on the river? It requires irrigation of aN extra desert tile. You want maximum production in the capital?

Alright, I'll start now. Thanks, civ_steve and good luck to everyone.
