C3C COTM 97 - Netherlands Results:
Congratulations to Drazek on winning the gold medal with a simply stunning 11,000 point haul. Amazing!
My particular favourite was Memento's spaceship victory, which on that map at Regent level was (IMHO) a brilliant achievement.
There were a few (deliberate) nuances in the scenario that may have impacted some games. The intent was to offer more of a challenge to the warmongers amongst you, whilst respecting the Regent level difficulty setting. Looks like I'll have to try (a lot) harder.
All civs started on the coast
All civs had their own landmass
The four archipelago groups were "paired" and each pair was joined by a single tile ribbon of sea tiles - making for precarious trading.
There was one seafaring civ on each of the four archipelago's and they were given advantageous start positions.
Resources were carefully thrifted in order to force a choice between war and trade.
Whether any of this stuff worked or not is another matter entirely...
